UPDATE: The cat is found.
Help a neighbor find her missing cat:

Our cat Penelope (also answers to “Penny”) went missing from our house on Midland between Walnut & Claremont sometime over this past weekend. She is very friendly although she may scratch a bit if you try and pick her up. She must be hungry by now so if anyone sees her and can feed her and call us we’ll come get her right away. She is unfortunately not wearing a collar since she has a habit of getting it off somehow. (973) 746-7510. Help appreciated – two small girls miss her very much.

Forty Years of Gay Pride

stonewall.jpgThe New York City’s Gay Pride Parade today sets off at noon from 5th Ave and 52nd and makes its way to Christopher and Greenwich, just feet away from the site of the watershed event in the gay rights movement. This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, an uprising of gay patrons of the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. Although there had been a large gay community in the Village since the 1920′s, gay bars were still being raided by police on a regular basis in the 1960′s. Stonewall was the first time that the gay community — led that night by drag queens and street kids — actively fought back.
More on those riots, from a Big Onion walking tour yesterday, after the jump.

Pomp and Nickelodeon

gr graduation.jpgRaging thunderstorms may have pushed the Glen Ridge class of 2009 inside for speeches and diplomas, but they were brief enough not to threaten the after-parties.
Following the traditional ceremony, where girls wear white dresses and boys white dinner jackets, the graduates went to a dinner-dance at the Glen Ridge Country Club. Meanwhile, townspeople were invited to gather at the elaborate stage set constructed for the tent party. This year’s Nickelodeon theme drew on all their favorite childhood cartoons.

It’s hard to imagine the blighted Montclair streetscape surrounding the former DCH dealership triangle could look this good. But let’s imagine (that’s MPD headquarters on left). After all, anything would be an improvement. Pinnacle Developers presented this concept rendering of what could be to Montclair’s Planning Board. Check out another rendering after the jump…

Can Montclair Just Pick Their Attorney Already?

Friday, Jun 26, 2009 2:24pm  |  COMMENTS (11)

Attorney Alan Trembulak, Montclair’s chief legal counsel, continues to represent the township, even though his employment contract expired in December 2008, and hasn’t been renewed. How’s that for job security?
According to councilor Cary Africk, in the spirit of embracing “wholesale change,” certain members of the town council decided not to automatically renew Trembulak’s contract but open the position to new applicants. We hear there’s a hold up because the council is divided over who should get the job – Montclair resident and planning board member Ira Karasick or Mr. Trembulak. But Africk says he couldn’t even get the council to agree to discuss the issue at this week’s council meeting.
