Don’t let the lusty hoots of male zucchinis stop you; the local farmers’ markets are gearing up for the summer season and it would be a shame to miss the rich selection. Here’s a round up of the local markets we’ve heard about. If you know any others, tell us in the comments.
Bloomfield Center’s Market opens from June 18th to October 29th, every Thursday from 1pm – 7pm, at the Lackawanna Train Station at Glenwood Avenue and Washington Street. Stop by for a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Thanks to the efforts of Steve Schuckman and other volunteers, the Montclair Farmers’ Market will start their 17th season on June 6th. Visit the Walnut Street Train Station every Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm for fresh fruits, vegetables, and spicy authentic tacos, àla newcomer Taquería Auténtica. Operated by Bloomfield’s Michael Natiello, Taquería Auténtica promises fresh ingredients inspired by Mexican and L.A. taco stands.
Little Fall’s Market was rained out today, and will open next week, June 12th instead. It is featuring everything from handbags to homemade stuffed cabbage. Not to mention the fresh produce, bread, baked goods, assorted dips, gourmet meats and fish, jewelry and clothing. Or the entertainment. Whew. Every Friday to October 30th, from 8:30 am to 6 pm, at 225 Main Street.
The year-round Paterson Farmer’s Market is celebrating their 75th anniversary with a “$2.14 million facelift,” adding amongst other things a new exterior façade, awnings, canopies and sidewalks. Most stalls operate from 7 am to 6 pm and the word on the street is that prices are unbelievable.
West Orange’s Market will open on July 3rd and run every Friday until October 30th. Check it out between noon and 6 pm for a variety of fresh fruit and produce in the Town Hall parking lot, at 66 Main Street.

Taco stand? All I can say is, it’s about time.
Happy to hear they’re thinking “outside the bun.”
I can’t wait for the market to open. Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be gorge!
My mouth is already watering for those real taquitos mexicanos!!
PS – Tacos will be served from 10:30 until 2. “Or until the tacos run out–whichever comes first,” Natiello says.
