At first I just tried sorting them a few at a time and feeding them carefully into my cute little Staples shredder. That got old fast. Then, as I regarded the quantity of documents I was looking at, I thought, 'how about a nice cozy fire in the fireplace?'. That's nice and cozy in the middle of winter -- less so when it is 90 degrees out with 89 percent humidity. But I had 12 or 13 big cardboard boxes of tax papers, medical papers, insurance documents, prospectuses and more, from 1989 to 2000. I needed a bigger solution. I recalled reading about trucks that come to your home -- in fact, someone told me they had a big shredfest over at Hillside school about a month ago, and it was free. That would have been great but I need shredding relief now. So I Googled "industrial and residential shredding trucks" and voila! I randomly chose one, called, and even though the $125 price tag was not cheap, it was worth it. I made an appointment for this past Friday, and I must say, I was completely satisfied with the process from start to finish. Take a look!

there are comments with all the photos in this slide show. all you have to do to read them is click on a picture when it shows. it gives you more explanation about what he is doing.
I'm missing something. What does this have to do with dignity?
i guess i should have been more clear. when i was trying to burn the papers i was covered with sweat and ashes. when i was trying to shred them in the tiny shredder, i had cats jumping on me, papers falling over because there were so many, and it was a mess. having the guy come by in the truck was a clean, organized way to handle it.
Nice advert disguised as a story.
What does the company do with the shredded paper?
they recycle it.
this isn't an advertisement for the company. i picked them out at random. we're happy to let readers know up front when we are trumpeting news about our sponsors. i thought it would be fun to share my shredding adventure. i especially liked the hydraulic lift on the side of the truck.
Is the little monitor to watch that your paper is shredded?
And speaking as some one who shredded two years of paper, paying 125 for 7 years sounds like a deal. My back i s still recovering.
So this is what replaces the New York Times (which, admittedly, is a joke these days)? Baristanet, it's time to give it up.
BTW, I've often wondered about the name. Montclair is poor in decent coffeehouses. Starbucks everywhere, but the people at Eclectic Cafe are throwbacks to the 70s, Bluestone makes HORRID coffee and is really a glorified, overstuffed Friendly's. And, well, there's not a lot else, is it? We DON'T HAVE GOOD COFFEEHOUSES IN THIS TOWN! So why are you called baristanet? By your logic, your site could also be NASAofficial.net or NuclearReactorOperator.Net or Victoriassecretowner.net or FailedRealtor.net or Quaintbututimaletlyunfashionableandthuslameboutiqueowner.net?
The only dignity getting shredded is ours. Zero is about to embark on a very expensive family vacation. $50 grand for a weeks stay in Martha's Vineyard, on our dime. Golf every weekend, Wednesday night party's at the White House with $300. a lb Japanese steak, date night in NYC with his wifey, Christmas in Hawaii, more trips abroad than any other president every took in a 6 month period. Then acting like he is "one of us" buying JCrew clothes for his family and planting a garden. haha. Who is he kidding. GWB took a August vacation at his ranch in Texas and the libs had a meltdown. Zero, he gets a pass to do as he pleases. Poll numbers are dropping, people are seeing the real "change" they voted for.
Let's discuss the mandatory end of life counseling for those 65 and over in Zero's new healthcare bill. Come on all you baby boomers, isn't this what you worked your ass off for all your life? To be told "prepare to die" because we need to use the money for healthcare for the young and the underprivliged and the illegals. Socialism, yes, Socialism. I can smell it in the air...
Montclairgirl...I have a crush on you.
It's a two week stay and it is not tax dollars paying for it.
But Bush sucks.
You do know that right?
Really, we're past that now.
montclairghoul + Icedoofus = assortive mating at its worst
sorry, meant assortative mating
Yes, yes, Bush sucks. We know that libs but keep telling us or you can get past that and open your eyes to the REAL worst president in history.
Two weeks!!! Now that's a real damn shame. Yes, we are paying for it. He hates the rich, wants to knock them down to size and live like the rest of us. Yet, he lives like he is a bazillionaire. Zero needs to come down off of his pedestal.
Actually, mg, he often emphasizes that he is NOT one of "us" by pointing out that his tax bracket is decidedly higher than the vast majority of Americans. His last press conference on health care included an emphasis on that as well.
And, um, he's the President of the USA, so yeah, he's got a big house and his own chef and security and driver. I don't think that's anything new, however. Presidential vacations are not paid for by the taxpayers - it's the security and most of the getting there that gets picked up by that part of the executive office's budget. Again, nothing new. It has been the case for a long time.
But back to the importance of shredding our personal documents....
montclairgirl, you might be happier in Wassilla. And homes are cheap there.
Aw, here you go again. It's okay for Zero but when Bush did it, IT WAS A CRIME!! Typical lib b.s.
We, as taxpayers are paying for it. In one way or another.
STQ, now your stealing the conservative view...if you don't like it, leave. It use to drive the libs nuts when someone on the right spouted those words.
All double standards to lift your king zero back onto his pedestal. Get a grip.
I too have a lot to shred, but I need to sort it out from the stuff I should keep. I only heard about the Hillside shredding party the night before, and that was not enough time for me to do it right.
I hope Hillside, or someone else, has another one in the fall and gets the word out far enough soon enough so I can partake.
Or maybe we could do our own, Baristanet shredding party. It will be interesting to see who shows up with what.
Poor Fran. Her lazy Sunday, paper shredding post gets hijacked by folks who can't take a Sunday off from the Obama-sucks-no-Bush-sucked-worse war. Enough, people, really.
I rip up documents the second I scan them into my computer with files backed up. I have a phobia of being over run by papers and various clutter.
Good for you, Fran. You minimized.
Talk about not having a shred of dignity, posting political BS here made as much sense as Bush at a state of the union address.
You go, montclairgirl. BTW, he is being brought down off his pedestal.
Me thinks Zero is enjoying the perks of the Presidency a wee bit too much. I wonder sometime if he comeprehends how serious the job is...
Talk about not having a shred of dignity, posting political BS here made as much sense as Bush at a state of the union address.
----------------------------
Or Zero trying to speak without a teleprompter.
Talk about not having a shred of dignity, posting political BS here made as much sense as Bush at a state of the union address.
LOL, thank you!
montclairgirl, I'm doing fine, thanks, no need to "get a grip" as you suggest. I like Obama and wish him well.
Okay, so you don't like Obama. So who do you want for president? Two of the most promising GOP contenders are in trouble now due to cheating on their wives. So who's left? Palin went AWOL. Romney has no chance because he's a Mormon. I sense you might have wanted George Wallace, but he's dead. So is Reagan. McCain won't run again. Bush can't run again. DeMint has nothing constructive to offer, just sniping at Obama seems to be his only skill, and he's clumsy at that as well.
Good luck.
Oh, so sorry. Zero spoke and it must be the truth. First he's poor then he's rich. Then he's white, then he's black, then he's a Christian, then he's a muslim, then he's up for the job, then it's above his pay grade. This man couldn't walk a straight line if he wanted to.
Yes, mother, I am aware of his title. BUUUUT when GWB was in the white house the libs criticized everything he did, every where he went, for 8 years!
Zero is taking a $70-100, grand a week vacation when most of us are taking a staycation. He should do the same and donate the money to his favorite charity. Zero need to "get some skin in the game" the way he wants the American people to do.
As for the healthcare reform, I'm all for it if congress and zero have the same plan for their families.
STQ,
Where on earth did you get the idea that Palin has gone AWOL? Just curious.
Ahhh Monday morning coffee and montclairgirl shredding dignity not paper.
hrh, actually, montclairgirl has added some dignity.
You don't want Obama, fine, but you offer no alternative at all.
Regarding Palin, she might call it "a higher calling" , so we can disagree on what we can plainly see is Palin quitting her job.
Now, if this "higher calling" had come about with McCain incapacitated in office, and Palin clearing out her desk, the leadership role of the free world would go to the Speaker of the House,, as per our nation's laws, and that would be Nancy Pelosi.
So who is your leadership choice?
Oh, so sorry. Zero spoke and it must be the truth.
Oh, ZERO, because his first initial is O! I get it! With political wit like that, you're sure to be one of the more informed commenters here, aren't you? But lets dig in.
First he's poor then he's rich.
He was poor, then he got elected to state senate and the presidency. Or did I miss something?
Then he's white, then he's black,
What are you talking about? Everyone knows he's half white and half black.
then he's a Christian, then he's a muslim,
He never said he was a Muslim. He was raised partially in a muslim country though.
then he's up for the job, then it's above his pay grade.
You certainly show an eye for detail. The 'above his pay grade' comment was about things better left to a higher power.
And they wonder why we call them wingnuts.
Here comes jerseygurl with the name calling aimed at those who dare to diasgree with her--and Obama.
Another fine example of a member of the "Party of Tolerance."
Tolerance can only go so far. Patience for crapola has it's limits.
OK, Nellie, you and JG disagree, and JG wants Obama as the leader of the free world and commander in chief. Did you have anyone else in mind? Montclairgirl seems not to have anyone she prefers, or she doesn't want to share that info with us.
There is a huge difference between tolerating someone else's views and laughing at irrational and baseless rants. Monogahela is right about it being crapola. And not worthy of discourse. As much as Mike91 may try to engage in a real dialogue, or make reasoned responses, it will be met with more crapola.
Yup, yup, yup JG, I am a wingnut (that's the best you can come up with?)
STQ, Hillary finished her senate term? Zero finished his? Are they quitters?
As for who my leadership choice is, I am not sure yet. I am sure it will be someone who crawled out from under the woodwork, as zero did for the libs. Who knows? We shall wait and see.
Every truth about zero libs call it a smear or an attack. What all the libs like about him are all the lies the media and zero feed you. Shameful!
You know, mtgirl, your frantic accusations and nasty hysteria don't do you any favors. Learn from the Prof or Cathar how to carefully lay out your point of view, and you might get someone to consider your ideas.
Is lib the best you can do? And zero? Hillary and Obama did not quit, they both took more demanding public positions.
STQ you are killing me here. Frantic accusations and nasty hysteria? Where are you getting this from?
Oh, you don't like bad things said about the zero you voted for? Oh, I see, dish it out but can't take it kinda guy.
Learn from who? You hate Prof and cather's points of view. Who are you kidding. haha.
By the way STQ, how many years till you turn 65?
jerseygurl, perhaps I think some of your views are crapola. But you have a right to state them without my calling you names. ("crapola" refers to the opinion, not to you personally). And why is zero so unacceptable compared to "wingnut."
Spiro, not sure who my choice is at this point. But in politics, as in life, the pendulum always swings, so I expect a strong conservative leader to emerge before the next election. Obama was a latecomer to the arena, so who knows what will happen between now and 2012.
I do agree with you, STQ, about Palin. She has disappointed me. I don't respect her for not finishing out her term as governor.
Psst! They're not wingnuts, they're trolls. Be very quiet until they go back under the bridge. ssshhhhh....
Nellie - it's not about the views. I think some of your views are crapola too, but you can carry on a conversation like a rational adult. Your comments, like the one about Palin, are informed rather than stemming from ignorance and anger.
n. An outspoken, irrational person with deeply-held, nominally conservative, political views. A person who chooses on principle to be flagrantly ignorant. A "right-wing nut".
Frantic accusations and nasty hysteria? Where are you getting this from?
As a comment about your posts, it's perfect.
Oh, you don't like bad things said about the zero you voted for? Oh, I see, dish it out but can't take it kinda guy.
As an Obama voter, I don't mind your comments. Because they don't make a lick of sense.
I read this on line and just could not pass up the opportunity to share it:
Zero is suffering from Allahzeimers, the disease that causes you to forget you were a muslim.
montclairgirl, read your own posts when you are more tranquil inside, and you will see where I'm "getting it" from.
And, montclairgirl, I disagree with the Professor and Cathar often, but they know how to post cogently, so I respect their abilities to place their views here, so I referred you to them for their ability to express their conservative views without foaming at the mouth.
And, by the way, I have no problem with you criticizing Obama, so your rant about "dish it out" is silly.
Iām also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the party say. And it is permitted to be said such things as, āWell, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim.ā Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, heās a Christian. Heās always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answerās no, thatās not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, āHeās a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.ā This is not the way we should be doing it in America.
-Colin Powell
Okay, JG likes Nellie's post because it is a negative about Palin.
Nellie, aren't you just so pleased with the "acceptance" of your comment? It is just so warm and fuzzy of JG to say that about you.
STQ, you do not like my posts, political opinions and let's see...what else, oh my demeanor. Yipes, so many rules on here since zero took office. Times are a changin'.
Montclairgirl, it's up to you. If you want to exchange views, that's what this blog is for. If you want to rant and rave, and offer little else, you will quickly marginalize yourself.
And I would like you to explain what is wrong with being a Muslim?
Listen, STQ I grew up in Montclair and being a conservative in a liberal town, you have to expect to be "marginalized". It does not scare me.
Montclairgirl,
What is wrong with being a Muslim?
suit yourself, montclair girl, be courageous by all means, but you might do better if you seem less like a carpet bomber.
I never said there was anything wrong with being a muslim. Zero and his crew denied it all through the campaign, as if there was something wrong with it. Zero's denial is what should be in question here, no?
Um, if he's not a Muslim, why shouldn't he deny it? He can also deny being a Jew, Buddhist, Italian, Eskimo, and a welder. Nothing wrong with any of those either.
What's wrong montclairwingnut, nothing about where he was born? C'mon get your game on!
No. Obama simply stated that he was not a Muslim. You have implied that he is a Muslim AND that there is something wrong with being a Muslim. Your comments and jokes about being Muslim clearly indicate that there is something wrong with being a Muslim.
Montclairgirl -
1. Your little joke is an ethnic slur.
2. Obama does not deny his religious point of view - he is a Christian.
What is in question is your maturity.
I think googleaddict is right, montclairgirl has to be a troll because it is statistically impossible that a real human being could consistently offer up such vacuous, baseless, reactionary BS. Don't engage, leave her/him/it be.
Okay Nellie, montclairgirl has added some dignity.
Just like the guests add dignity to the Jerry Springer show.
jerseygirl, you are the BIGGEST hypocrite here!!! So, now I am a racist. Haha. Like i said, I grew up in Montclair and your nonsense will not scare me away.
I don't care if zero is a Christian, muslim, jew or whatever. He is more of a self-worshiper with many many followers.
In his April 6 address to the Turkish Parliament, President Obama referenced how many āAmericans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim majority country. I know, because I am one of them.ā
So, he said it, I repeat it and I am the racist.
Jeez JG, you and STQ need to go, both of you, right now, hand in hand and get a grip!
Just like the guests add dignity to the Jerry Springer show.
-------------------------
Or like Obama on Leno
Perhaps you need to brush up on your reading comprehension. He said he is one of the Americans who has a Muslim in his family. Not that he himself is one. Not sure why I'm being called a hypocrite for stating fact.
And you are still implying that there is something very wrong with being a Muslim.
I've been summer cleaning and shredding old statements, etc. I've also signed up on-line for the majority statements rather than having hard copies sent to my home address. It's just so much more managible.
Montclairgirl, you are hostile beyond belief.
Oh STQ, don't be so thin-skinned. It was fun jabbing at you today. Made my day go by faster.
Almost the 5o'clock whistle so gotta go.
smooches!!
montclairgirl, your theory that my responses suggest a thin skin is silly. After all, I was never the topic of discussion. It was obvious that President Obama was. Nonetheless, even though you were maginally reasonable in responding to my posts, your hostility and nastiness towards the President and to other posters who disagreed with you today was as plain as day. You might want to think about your delivery if you want others to come around to your way of thinking. I doubt that you do, I think you'd rather feel isolated and furious.
Today, I have been called a racist, hostile, a troll, a wingnut, a montclairwingnut, told to leave town and my maturity questioned. Yeah, I guess I was the only nasty one on here today.
Tootles!
"Let's discuss the mandatory end of life counseling for those 65 and over in Zero's new healthcare bill. Come on all you baby boomers, isn't this what you worked your ass off for all your life? To be told "prepare to die" because we need to use the money for healthcare for the young and the underprivliged and the illegals. Socialism, yes, Socialism. I can smell it in the air..."
Montclairgirl, I've been thinking about this post all day. I truly don't understand your thinking behind it, yet the sentiment is expressed by others.
Respectfully, would you answer the following questions on point (not a sweeping generality)?
What do you believe socialism is?
Should we abolish Social Security, Medicare & Unemployment insurance?
Regarding the "end of life counseling" you refer to: more medical dollars are spent on end of life care than at any other time, yet the results are the same. I don't have an answer for the following 2 questions either, but:
Do you think a 101 year old is entitled to a pacemaker on Medicare? Or an 87 year old is entitled to a kidney transplant?
Do you think a patient who is medically determined to be brain dead should be kept on life support as long as the family wishes it?
Do you think people without insurance should be denied care, or that the way we deal with it now is OK?
And lastly: How do illegal immigrants harm you personally, harm the community you live in, or your country?
Anyone else is free to answer these, but please don't answer for Montclairgirl, or describe how she thinks.....
Personally, I always find most everything that dear old jerseygurl posts to be arrant crapola. And clear evidence that her thought processes are never terribly impressive and remain muddled at best even when her guy wins a Presidential election.
But her supplying of a "definition" of a wingnut above was over-reaching even by the mingy, smug standards she sets for herself daily. That perforce conservatives constitute wingnut-ism is the sort of silly assumption I'd generally expect to find places like on the Huffington Post or in the pages of "The Nation."
As for there being something wrong with being a Muslim, which someone else frothed about above, well, that depends on what sort of Muslim, no? Even on where said Muslim practices his or her Islam? is the exacting in Muslim nations of a dhimmi tax upon believers an outrage and well as am abridgement of non-beleivers' civil rights? Is the complete lack of religious liberty in fun countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran appropriate cause for alarm? Can the concept of jihad towards non-Muslims be seriously defended? Can a commitment to restoration of the Caliphate upon the backs of Christians? Doesn't anyone else wonder why pubolic opinion polls in Muslim nations consistently show respondents putting a great deal of credence in "The Protocols of The Elders of Zion?" No worries about the ritualized anti-Semitism found across the East and Mideast?
These are interesting questions. Questions which to my way of thinking hint that certain forms of Islam are even more dangerous to domestic peace, freedom and tranquility than everyone's favorite bugaboo here, right-wing Christians. I can only guess that such representatives of Western society as post here thus have a profound death wish. They certainly betray little genuine familiarity with the curious course of Islamic history since the early 7th century. and of the divagations, often distinctly dangerous to others, which have occurred in the faith since its founding. (A term devout Muslims would of course disagree fiercely with, their prference would be as its "revelation" of the true nature of the one God as revealed by his beloved Prophet.)
And through all this, it should be noted, there is rarely, if ever, little serious call from within Islam itself to change for the general good. (You know, the sort of chat that might reassure uneasy Christians, Jews, agnostics, Buddhists, etc.) This right away separates Christianity from Islam in terms of basic intent. Islam is a faith which lacks even a Thomas Merton-like figure, to the best of my knowledge. So there certainly are salient questions to ask about its intents, dogmas and general commitment to personal liberties for non-believers.
Cathar, your deliberate denial that the previous post exists is another example of stunning evasion when you can't trump the topic , even for you.
And your inference that Islam is worse than other religions without acknowledging that violence, intolerance, misogeny, etc. exists in other religions is pure bigotry.
Handily expressed, cloaked in wispy historical
references and fifty-centers, but pure bigotry.
Christians changing themselves for the greater good? Funny, I don't remember the Pope allowing
birth control in AIDS-stricken Africa lately.
As for there being something wrong with being a Muslim, which someone else frothed about above, well, that depends on what sort of Muslim, no? Even on where said Muslim practices his or her Islam?
I hope the irony is not lost on you cathar, that replace Muslim with Irish Catholic, and your rant would read exactly like a Know Nothing tract from the 1850s.
Well put, Mike91.
Cathar, why don't you take a shot at answering my questions put to Montclairgirl? Without verbal aerobatics. Point by point. Show us your version of the conservative's preference for health care reform. What it is you'd like to see enacted. And why illegals are the bane of our existance.
I don't recall "denying" anything above, kit schackner (and may we call you "kitten" short short? I think I'll do so in the future whether or no you approve), so cease your frothing. I merely raised some questions about Islam which have been worth asking ever since Berber armies stormed ashore at Gibraltar sometime in the early 8th century (prior to the battle of Poitiers, which determined that Gerard Depardieu would speak French onscreen instead of Arabic).
Nor are my historical references ever wispy, kitten. Personally, I think Christianity compares very well against Islam in most(well, maybe even all) substantive ways. But if you disagree, as is your right, you're also welcome to face Mecca five times daily. It does, however, help to know something about Islamic history, as so few believers ever seem to.
Nor, too, was I comenting on health care as it turns out.
Mike91, your comparison was just silly. Most likely arose from sheer ignorance. The Know-Nothing party merely had a knee-jerk reaction to just the modest prospect of "Papistry." Whereas criticisms of Islam can be derived from an actual reading of, mirabile dictu, both history and the Qu'ran. One of the greatest things the radical, "destroy-the-Crusader-scum" brand of Islam has going for it is that arguments like your own, which adherents are never shy about raising as a tactic, can effectively quash any genuine discussion of the faith and of its history and intentions as expressed by its fundamentalists. This, for example, is how CAIR operates. In this respect, I hope you'll at least agree that Christianity and Judaism are both much more above-board.
To those who do not believe (the majority of posters here, I'd wager), all faiths are deeply flawed. But some are maybe more flawed than others. And then there is nothing in the New Testament near as damaging to human dignity as Islamic fundamentalists of various stripes find in the Qu'ran to serve as their inspiration. Try living under Sh'aria for a few years someplace like Yemen and then try telling me different, hmmm? Your experiences would probably make even living for "four more years" under Mayor Fried seem like "paradise enow."
Mike91, your comparison was just silly
No, its not. The Know Nothings believed that recent Catholic immigrants paid more allegiance to Rome than to the constitution. Your references to 'the right kind of Muslim' and Sharia law imply that if we were to elect a Muslim to high office, he would have similarly divided loyalties.
Christians changing themselves for the greater good? Funny, I don't remember the Pope allowing
birth control in AIDS-stricken Africa lately.
-----------------------------
So you are getting back at Cathar's comment about the Islamic faith by knocking Catholicism.
Whether or not you agree with cathar, his post was informative and well-written. And he doesn't expect everyone to take the time to answer a bunch of questions.
