Greek Taverna Throws Itself a Party

What could be better than great Greek food? How about great Greek food — free?
Greek Taverna celebrates its first anniversary tonight (Tuesday) with a free buffet from 6 to 9 pm and live Greek music from 6 to 11 pm. It’s also showing off its sidewalk dining section, which I’ve been admiring from my car for weeks now. Well, all Baristas love a party, so look for us tonight! The restaurant is located at the corner of Gates and Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, across from Lackawanna Plaza.
In other restaurant news, two of our favorite breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurants — Toast (Montclair) and Sweet Basil’s Cafe (West Orange) — are offering some evening hours. Toast is now open on Wednesdays nights from 5 to 8 pm. Sweet Basil’s is open from from Tuesday through Thursday from 5 to 8 pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 9 pm. See their full dinner menu as a PDF here.

The Baristas left out one very import detail. The Greek Taverna “party” is by invitation only. We were not aware of this and were turned away when we tried to go.

I am on the scene. Management now says they will serve all — invitation or not — til 9. Wait is probably half an hour. Sorry to those initially turned away.

We passed by around 7, but the line looked way too long, so we went to Elevation instead.

They delivered us the wrong food once, and then made it right by delivering our order 20 minutes later. Said we could keep the wrong delivery too.
In the wrong delivery were the giant grilled shrimp with herbs, butter and garlic. OMG!!! We have been hooked ever since on these x amazing food, but have only ever had it delivered…

All is forgiven. Had a great time after all. Thanks for letting us into the line, Debbie.
Only challenge was finding a place to set our plates. Becky found a bench in the hall, I used the top of the a/c out back. Delicious food was well worth the wait. Couldn’t find anyone to buy drinks from, but finally found seats and water(sic) service as the terrific music wound down.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
