Hey, Stte Street Pete, I left early to get there & get “My Spot” ~ SOOoo, I just saw this. Too bad we didn’t meet up! I brought my asc McLaren Bubble-back Coupe – Medium-Dark Grey with the Popsicle Orange Decals & Striping. In front of the Liquor store. I left early, very tired. So many people, so many questions. When it began to thunder, we left. It was packed to capacity – last Cruise-night is always that way. I was there all Summer, with my ascMcLaren 2-Seat Convertible (Anniversary Silver) and back in June with my 16 year old (9,000 mile) Cadillac Sixty Special Fleetwood. Sorry I missed you !! I did meet lots of folks I know, from all the way over to Millburn came out.
Thank you BlmfdGirl for all you do. *** kisses to you ! Everyone appreciates your efforts.

Well,I feel good as a Bloomfield tax payer that Cruise night has saved Bloomfield Center from blight town center that is was becoming. I am sure that this is money well spent and that the whole entire community is very gratefull that Cruise Night has saved the day. What Bloomfield needs is more great intelligent ideas like this to save it from all its real problems. Nice Job.
ps – yes, this is sarcastic.

Thanks for the warm invitation, blmfldgirl. Alas, I was stuck in the salt mines for most of the night, sweating and steaming. I hope the show was fun and rainless.

Mr. Bloomfield, it is one of very few positive things IN Bloomfield ! It does not aim to cure all of the evils that lurk in town. That would be impossible. Now, actually it would be possible if everyone in power was tossed out, and a new crew of leaders wqs assembled, being picked from a selection of elected persons now serving in Millburn, Maplewood, Springfield and Verona. That said, if a really terrific art & sculpture show was held in Irvington Center, would that cure all the ill in Irvington?
Why did I pick Irvington ? Because 50% of the stores that have opened in Bloomfield Center in the past 4 years, have their other store IN Irvington!!
At least the Car Show is a very positive thing and I met people from Caldwell who came down to see the show, and a couple from Millburn and South Orange. They are NOT coming here for .99 cent dreams !!!
Sarcasism is not prductive. A nice evening car show is.

Sandy – yes, you are right that it is one of the few positive things happening in Bloomfield. Unfortunately its a band aid on a gun shot. The town should be putting its efforts into the bigger issues – that is not to say that car shows should not happen – they should – but not till more important issues are addressed. Disguising the ineptitude of the local politicians with an car show, autumn fest, farm market, etc. just shows how out of touch and incompetent the local government is. Lets concentrate on big important matters that REALLY need to get done – and then the car show.

ps. forgot, I can’t help being sarcastic, sorry

Well, now I agree more with you than against. Here is the problem, or one of many….
The retail stores that represented the Bloomfield home owner have (almost) all vanished. The landlords who own the properties had no independent business owners lining up to take over establiched retail outlets, nor to be game enough to own new-idea stores. Landlords went hurting, with zero income. So, the cheap shops, and the .99 cent bonanza outlets walked right in.
I personally do not know many Bloomfielders. I wound up here in an unusual way. I hail from South Orange. I have been a Bloomfielder now for 25 years. The 1st 35 were spent in Maplewood and then S.O. But, I have seen nothing but growth in Maplewood & S.O. while I have at the same time witnessed the downfall of the center of Bloomfield. Yes, I am sad about it. Perhaps the elected officials of Blmfd. are not to blame, as they have no say who rents to whom. Maybe I do not know enough. Maybe the officials do have ways & means….The long/short of it is that “our” center does not reflect our property owners. Of the people in town that I know, I have met at least 3 who are mega millionaires.
No, you’d not know it by the car they drive, nor the home they live in…but, they are. They do not shop in town, brcause there is nothing here for them. There is ALOT of “quiet $$$” here, being spent in Montclair, Verona, Cedar Grove, West Orange and other nearby towns.
Sadly, I do not have the magic pill.
Annie Sez is nice, Roxy Florist & Wise Optical as well as Center Drug. Other than that, it’s nothing but .99 stores, Fast Food, Nails, wigs and more nails. Since when does any town center NEED 14 Nail Salons ? Certainly the women of Livingston have more spendable money, and Livingston does not have 14 Nail Salons !
Yes, the center is a grand dump, I agree.
(But the Car Show was enjoyable, for 3 hours, and for a fleeting moment in time, it almost seemed like Millburn!)

I smart competent government can do a huge amount to save a declining town center. Just think of the tenants that the government of Bloomfield, with all of their consultants and attorneys, etc. could have recruited from Montclair and other neighboring towns to settle in Bloomfield. The tenants would have much less rent to pay, plenty of parking (though the town would have you think otherwise) and along with the NY direct train it would slowly evolve into a “Montclairish” town. The town could have offered all kinds of incentives – yet they chose to waste almost $5,000,000.00 of taxpayers money on a loser case against a horrendous developer. Will someone please explain to me how the politicians keep getting re-elected? Maybe arrogance and stupidity is a quality that appeals to Bloomfield voters.

    You left out caring !
Town made a big to do over the grand unveiling of the Dog Park at the edge of Watsessing Park, next to Watsessing Ele. School. For a year or 2 it was nice, and it was “kept”. I passed it the other day. It is deserted, abanded, filthy looking, trash all over (Litter is Blmfd’s middle name) and because of all that it is now no longer used. At what cost to taxpayers? Give one an idea of how the soccer field, now propossed for Watsessing Park wil be in 2013!
Town Hall needs an exterminator. To be replaced with young vibrant alive people with new ideas. instead of the same old same old Hormel Hash !!

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
