Remember the story from a month ago, about the feisty 92-year-old woman who fought back when the woman she gave a ride to after church tried to snatch her purse? Well, Montclair Police have arrested the suspect … in church. From Montclair Police Lt. Scott Buehler:

Through a police investigation, the suspect was identified as Jacqueline Fishman,45, of Montclair. Fishman was located at St. Luke’s Church on 10-23-09 at approximately12:30 PM and arrested. She is charged with robbery, with bail set at $1,000 cash, and transferred to the Essex County Jail.

Lt. Buehler also sent along reports of several other robbery arrests, involving minors. One of the incidents took place at Montclair High School.

On 10-23-09 at approximately 4:20 PM, Montclair Police School Resource Officers were notified of an assault at Montclair High School. The victim, a 15 year old Montclair male, states that a fellow student attempted to steal the victim’s video game control during an after school activity. When the victim attempted to stop the suspect, the suspect punched him in the eye and kicked him when he fell to the ground. The suspect then fled the activity room. Based upon the description provided and statements made by witnesses, police were able to identify the suspect, a sixteen year old Montclair male. The suspect was quickly located and placed under arrest. He was charged with robbery and remanded to the Essex County Youth House.

On 10-18-09 at approximately 10:20 PM, police were dispatched to the corner of Park Street and Bloomfield Avenue on a report of an assault. Upon speaking with the victim, an 18 year old Newark, resident, police learned that he was attacked by a group of four males after refusing to surrender his cell phone. The victim suffered an injury to his right eye as a result of the incident.
As a result of an ongoing police investigation, police arrested two Montclair juvenile males on connection with the robbery on October 22nd and 23rd. The males, 16 and 17 years old, were charged with robbery and aggravated assault. Both were remanded to the Essex County Youth House.

Last Friday, Montclair police also arrested two Montclair residents, William Fleming and Penelope Auletta, on charges of possession and intent to distribute heroin within 1,000 feet of a school.

What is a “video game control” and why does anyone have one at school?

    Walter,
You may know it better as a “joy stick” or if you’re from a pre-Atari generation: That small boxy-looking thingy with all the buttons.
As far as why he had it at school: Maybe he was going to a friend’s house to play a video game and the friend did not have enough controllers for multiple players, maybe a friend returned it to him after borrowing it for a weekend, or maybe he thinks of it as a good-luck charm and had it on his desk during a test… who cares?
What, exactly, is the point of your question?
It’s not like he had some sort of weapon and you can’t use a controller without the corresponding system and a TV… so it’s not like it could have been used during class.

You’re supposed to get all questions cleared with Generic Mike first, Walter. You’re new, so we’ll let is slide just this once…

New? I’ve been here for over four years.
And I’m old enough to remember joy sticks. (Joyce Dix worked in MY high school guidance counselor’s office, FWIW.)

Maybe I’m too much in the holiday mood– after all, Halloween is really Samhrain, the Celtic new year. Another thing we Irish gave the world, thank you very much, but nevertheless….
sometimes I swear I can hear the coffin lid creaking when ROC arises to offer a post….

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
