The Newark Arts Council's Open Doors '09 event, presented by Prudential Foundation, takes place Oct 22nd -25th, for an eighth year. There will be tours of dozens of local galleries and artists' studios. Major exhibitions during Open Doors includes a collective show focused on Newark, and featuring 30 international artists who provide a unique interpretation of the city from afar. Creative temporary gallery installations promise to be rife with colorful, thoughtful pieces.
This year's line up includes new programs such as the reopening of Sumei Multidisciplinary Art Center, one of Newark's most respected galleries, after a three-year hiatus. There will be movie screenings and the return of the kickoff event, the Newark Arts Parade, which starts and ends at 765 Broad St, travels around Park Place, and back up Broad Street.
The parade (see photo) will be followed by the annual Gallery Crawl sponsored by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, from 6pm - 9pm. It will feature more than a dozen established galleries and experimental spaces, many of which will host opening receptions. The Crawl participants include Aljira, a Gallery of Contemporary Art; Gallery Aferro, Gallery 744, the Newark Museum, Index Art Center Gallery, City Without Walls, Rupert Ravens Contemporary and Newark Art Supply. Several store fronts will also be converted to galleries for the week.

I love the painting used for this article. I wouldn't mind having a copy of it hanging somewhere in my apartment.
I love this painting, too, from what I can tell from the one inch chip shot above. I'm not sure what it would looke like at full scale, but at the very least it would make a welcome addition to the workshop in my garage.
