Our friend Alden Provost over at the Glen Ridge Historical Society has sent over the names of the winners, and even a few photos, as well. You can see the whole display over at the Glen Ridge library. Sounds like a fun afternoon….
Over 40 people enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon with the Glen Ridge Historical Society as it hosted its annual Fall walking tour. Starting at the old Benson Street Rail Station, docents led three separate groups through the area of town that was developed by Edward Wilde during the late 19th century. During the hour and a half tour a history of the neighborhood was provided and architectural details of many houses were pointed out and discussed.
At the reception which followed the walk, Marc Levinson, president of the Historical Society, announced the winners of its 2nd Annual Photo Contest. This contest, which was open to all residents, attracted over 20 entries across three categories which included People, Private Homes and Public Spaces.
In the People category, first prize went to Neil Nathanson for a 3-D photo of a boy on a motorcycle. Second price was won by Megan Giulianelli for her photo of a girl at a flag-raising ceremony at Linden Avenue School. In the Private Homes category, Karin Robinson won first prize for her photo of green leaves setting off a white porch column. Second price went to David Doernberg for his photo of a house on Woodland Avenue. In the Public Spaces category, the first-prize winner was Megan Giulianelli for a photo of a Glen Ridge street in fog. Second prize was won by David Doernberg for a photo of the Glen Ridge train station.
Founded in 1977, the Glen Ridge Historical Society is a voluntary organization that maintains and promotes the historical character of Glen Ridge with the goal of protecting the town’s unique character and rich architectural history. Information regarding membership, which is open to all, can be found at www.glenridgehistory.org.

Great photo.
But why all the thumbs down for crank?
Apparently my ironic commentary on the subtext of the photo was too blunt for some people. So it goes.
Intriguing. How bad could the comment have been?
it was pretty bad. Sexual overtones.
i thought crank was riffing on the “Love of God and Country” cliche and suggesting that the extreme patriotism among some approaches the level of unbridled lust or passion, or maybe even something further along that particular continuum.
Ah. Picture of a young girl and a comment mentioning lust or passion is not a good combo. And Roman Polanski should be in jail.
ROC – sexual overtones?
Sort of like the Bible? “Bring them unto us so we may know them!” (see Genesis 19:5 – the angels and the Sodomites) or “and Ham unc*vered his father’s nak*dness (after the flood)
Crank was extremely wholesome in contrast.
Time to alert Reverend Osteen!
obviously the owners of the site disagreed.
p.s.
I think crank was trying to make a joke and nothing more, but the comment was still inappropriate. I’m not surprised at Spiro’s confusion however.
Silly ROC, I was hardly confused at all. I live for grey reality like you live for black and white reality.
