New Dorm at MSU will be Called Frank Sinatra Hall

Monday, October 19, 2009

frank sinatra hall barista.jpgMontclair State University has released that their newest dorm will be called Frank Sinatra hall.

MSU students were given the opportunity to name the new dorm by voting online. Frank Sinatra beat out Walt Whitman and Albert Einstein with a total of 506 votes.
Other nominees that appeared on the survey were John Holland, George Inness, Alfred Kinsey, Doris Duke, Milton Freedman, Thomas Edison and Aaron Burr.

The Montclarion reports:

The results from the campus wide poll came in last week and Frank Sinatra was on top with 506 votes. He was followed by Walt Whitman in second with 125 votes and in third was Albert Einstein with 119 votes. A total of 2,379 votes came in to the university. The survey process was similar to the naming of the Village Apartments.

"I want to wake up on a campus that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the dorm, The No. 1 Peep."

Man, that is one handsome looking building!

Why in the world would MSU let students name this building when surely they could bring in donor money for the honor of naming it?

... especially with such a beautiful facade...

I could see a set of golden arches over the top of that little cupola thing - one possible donor.

And yet the town of Montclair still has nothing named after Buzz Aldrin....

So sad when a community fails to acknowledge its history.

Here, MSU had the chance to name a building after a famous alum, rather than a famous New Jerseyan.

Or perhaps someone important to the University.

But after the other new dorm was named for Abbott and Costello, it was clear to me where all the new MSU naming was headed.

Because of that, old Blue Eyes is as good as any...... I guess.....

I couldn't agree more Prof. Monclair doesn't even have a street named for Buzz Alrin. It is a shame.

It is sad about Buzz, especially since there's a whole Yogi Berra Museum. Not begruding Yogi, but it would be nice if Buzz Aldrin was also commemorated in some way.

...offering your child a dorm room you can't refuse....

Buzz Hall. Has a nice ring to it.

They should have called it Thomas P. Crapper Hall, for so many reasons.

I guess the Bruce Willis hall did garner any votes.

Well, who's with me in putting before the Board of Education?

They ARE opening up a new school.

I agree that Buzz Aldrin merits some kind of honor; there are already schools named for him in Virginia and Illinois.

Here are some possible arguments in opposition: No other Montclair public schools bear the name of an individual; the planning for the new school and the budgeting for it have been so shoddy that it would make less than a fitting tribute.

Had the name 'get a buzz' hall, been proposed, I'd guess it would have gotten big votes!

I'll bet Bruce Springsteen Hall would have done pretty well.

It's still under construction, ROC.

Being a big James Gang fan I think it should have been named after Montclair alum Joe Walsh. Also enjoy his solo and Eagles stuff.

There would probably have to be a $300,000 exploratory research team dedicated towards naming the school.

Is that building finished? Because I have to agree with the above sarcasm, it looks like a giant turd. No wonder it was named after someone from Hoboken.

Buzz deserves something more impressive.

Architects must have been recruited from the former Soviet Union firm.

Illustrious Buzz Aldrin was initiated into they mysteries of Freemasonry in the Masonic Hall that is now a Bangz Spa/Salon at 23 South Fullerton. He certainly should be honored with something permanent in Montclair.
