Bloomfield's budding actors have chosen a challenging play for their fall drama. The high school's award-winningThespian Society is performing Sophocles' "Antigone" tonight and Saturday night at 7:30 at the Bloomfield College's Van Fossan Theatre.
The classic Greek tragedy is the story of Antigone, the daughter produced by the accidentally incestuous mating of Oedipus and his mother. Although the action is set in ancient Thebes, Bloomfield chose a 1986 BBC adaptation that uses modern language. Set and costume design include both modern and period elements. And yes, there's a Greek chorus on stage for the entire performance.
ANTIGONE has a cast of twenty, including 6 seniors, 7 juniors, 4 sophomores and 3 freshmen. Costume design is by BHS Senior Julia Rosenberg. Two actors in the cast, Kate Sugarman (Antigone) and Schuylar Doemling (Messenger), were recognized with a Superior rating at last year's International Thespian Society (NJ chapter conference) at Rutgers State University.

Tickets are $8 and are available in advance at Bloomfield High School's main office or at the door.

Someone ought to run some flyers over to Montclair Highschool and hand them out.

I love this poster. It reminds me of a Jean Cocteau drawing.
