County Executive Joe Di Vincenzo, who has made it his mission to beautify Essex County and improve its financial health, will announce his candidacy for a third term on December 11 from a former gritty parking deck in Newark – which under his oversight was transformed into 2.7 acre sanctuary of green. Di Vincenzo has more than a million dollars in the campaign “war chest,” according to The Star Ledger, and plenty of support.

One of DiVincenzo’s most vocal critics is David Weiner, who as president of Local 1080 of the Communications Workers of America represents about 650 welfare workers.
His membership is primed to piggyback on the re-election campaign to get their message out. He’s thinking of arming his local with their own individual pieces of sod.
“So now, you have to pay attention to us because we’re a park,” Weiner said.

Robert Bowser, mayor of East Orange, is thinking about challenging Di Vincenzo in the June primary, according to the Ledger.

Sorry, Annette, you know I love you like a sister, but there’s nothing more depressing to have to think about on the Monday morning after a long weekend than county government in Jersey.

One of Joe D’s “accomplishments” is reeling in “state Green Acres funds” — which is just borrowed money (approved by voters, but borrowed nonetheless). How this earns him uncritical praise for trying to “improve” the county’s “financial health” is beyond me.

In all fairness, Roo, I think any post outside of “Nellie wins a million dollars” would be depressing to me today. It stinks being back at work after the four-day weekend.

Tell me something I don’t know. If I didn’t have Baristanet, I’d probably be hanging from the rafters right now. Even winning a million bucks would come with a gigantic frickin tax bill.

Mayor Bowser is doing excellent work in East Orange, especially with Urban Planning and Environmental Issues. He has exceptional expertise and is responsable for extremely valuable improvements.

    huh?
It’s less gritty now? Did they sweep? Was it painted green? Is the deck still there? Must be since he’s announcing from it.

Good hair is more important than fiscal rectitude.

Joey Dee (Starlighters), Bowser (Sha Na Na), we got a real rock and roll thing going here. The only thing we really don’t need is the entire county government. The art of bureaucracy in action!

We have found Mr. Di Vincenzo and his staff to be ever so much more accessible, responsive and effective than any elected official in Montclair.

I would like to second that emotion. Mr. Di Vincenzo is always there when you need him.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
