Gallery U contemporary artspace is opening December 2009. If you are an artist and are interested in submitting work, please contact me at robbeyond@aol.com with submissions. PLEASE note that Gallery U is run by people with traumatic brain injuries and it is part of their therapy to operate the gallery. Our price point is significantly lower than many other galleries and we are currently taking submissions for work that does not succeed 500 usd. It is a 50/50 split with the artist. So if you require more than 250 usd for your works then this isnt the place for you. However, if that's cool - the Gallery U welcomes you with open arms. We also accept donations of artwork and the sales of that work goes to purchasing art supplies for artists with disabilities to allow them to create their own works! We are having a huge opening reception on December 5th, 2009 from 7-10 at 179 Glenridge Ave, Montclair NJ 07042. Everyone is welcome!
I love that this gallery is so open, so honest, and has been created to assist and support artists with traumatic brain injury. I look forward to the opening--and I can't wait to see all the exciting artwork.

This sounds like such a worthwhile venture. As the mother of a child with traumatic brain injury due to childhood cancer, I feel especially sympathetic to this cause. We will reach out to the gallery about submitting some work.
Does Gallery U have a website, or is it affiliated with a particular organization? A friend of mine works at the WAE center and this sounds like something they would be involved in.
Fran, thanks so much for posting this, i already had a few really great contacts. We are working very hard on putting GALLERY U together. Our parent company is Universal Institute Rehab in Livingston NJ. We provide therapy for people with Traumatic Brain Injuries and Developmental Disabilities. The artwork they create is just amazing as you will see when the Gallery opens. We have a fansite on Facebook, just search Gallery U Montclair. I am not only a Montclair resident but also a former gallery owner and now the Executive Director of Universal Institute, we knew Montclair was the community to welcome us with open arms and I was right! The emails and encouragement have been overwhelming. I hope everyone can make the Grand opening on December 5th from 7pm-9pm and we look forward to working with all the artists, patrons and supporters. The one question everyone seems to be asking is how to submit and support. As the Gallery Director, I will be in the Gallery space on Mondays from 3-5 and on Thursdays from 6-8 to view works. The gallery will be operated by our clients and will be open Tues-Sat from 10-5. and will be open for business right after the opening.
