Premature Congratulations

PHILSDEFEATYANKEES2.jpgDid you hear the one about the Philadelphia Inquirer running a Macy’s ad congratulating the Phillies for back-to-back World Series victories and offering the commemorative t-shirts? Oops.
Anybody want to go out on a limb with some premature congratulations for the Yankees, who are a bit better positioned to win? What say you, Baristaville? Does the Series end tonight?

I would love if the Yankees won tonight… If only so we can be rid of the most boring team sport on TV for another year.

I gave you a thumb’s up GNM even though I’m an avid Yankees fan. Baseball is boring, most of the time. Soccer though, is more boring, most of the time. I like soccer, but watching it on TV is just a waste.

I’ve found that baseball and soccer are much more enjoyable if you’re smoking a meth/shroom mix. The speedy hallucinations add some pace to these sports.

I would like to prematurely congratulate the Appoint Board Committee and hope that they suffer the same fate as Dewey!

I had a Jewish friend in Queens growing up back in high school and we’d go to his grandma’s house in Forest Hills while he fasted on Yom Kippur to watch the Yankees and play poker between the afternoon and evening prayer sessions.
Baseball was boring then and remains boring now. Too bad we didn’t know MellonBrush2 – we could have copped some shrooms and my friend could have been sealed in the Book of Life Under The Influence. Anyway, he’s still alive and well up in the Galillee, so I guess all that prayer, poker and Yankee TV stuff worked out really well.

baseball used to be more exciting when Rizzuto, Messer and White were in the booth. Could listen to those guys and “watch” the game all night.

Someone in South America will end up wearing these, just like the Patriots super bowel champs shirts.

Did any of you bother to watch last night’s game? If you had, you wouldn’t be able to look me in the eye and tell me it was boring. Did you see Johnny Damon’s at bat with two outs in the 9th with the score tied 4-4? Did you see him steal second and then, after the throw, steal third? How can you possibly watch that and say it’s boring?
Very few of the games in this post season (and I’ve watched a great many) have not been excellent, hard fought contests that have gone down to the wire. Many of them, including the Phillies-Yankees games, have been pitching duels, in which each team tries to wear down the opposing pitcher until he makes a mistake or has to leave the game, when all of a sudden things can break either way. You can’t have exciting late innings without that first six or seven innings of standoff.
By the way, as much as I’d like to see the Yanks win tonight, not least so I can get back to my life, I think they’ll win back home in the sixth game.

    ‘Roo,
You described three pitches out of a minimum of 162 (more obviously, as people scored in the game and this guy was on base). That means, optimistically, 1.9% of the game was exciting… If we assume the other 8 runs were just as exciting over a similar number of pitches, then the total persentage goes up to a whopping 17%. That’s almost 1 in 5 pitches amounting to something actually happening!!! What have I been missing all these years?!?
But, don’t get me wrong, baseball does have it’s exciting moments… That’s why I watch the highlight reel.
    Stela,
What was I going to change the chanel to on Sunday? Fox’s Animation Domination(tm) was completely pre-empted for America’s Snoozefest… I mean Pasttime.
(So, I did the next best thing: I turned off the TV and watched my laundry wash.)

How many socks did you lose? And Mike….Stella is spelled with two l’s……thanks! Enjoy game 6!

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
