Mayor Jerry Fried and Township Council said Marc D. Dashield has been appointed Township Manager, beginning Feb. 1, 2010, to succeed Joseph Hartnett who is retiring and whose contract was extended to Jan. 31 to ensure a smooth transition.
Dashield has been city administrator of Plainfield, NJ since 2007, running municipal departments and organizing the city's downtown revitalization efforts. Prior to that, he was CFO of Franklin Township for three years where he managed a $45 million annual operating budget, a $6 million water utility budget and $2 million for open spaces.
"Marc Dashield brings an impressive skill set to Montclair, with extensive municipal experience in finance, labor relations, human services, city planning, and other areas of government" said Mayor Fried. "I'm eagerly looking forward to collaborating with him to build a truly economically and environmentally sustainable Montclair."
Fried also commended Hartnett's efforts and his hard work, "decisive leadership and contributions over the past six years."

Plainfield's next budget will either contain a 20% increase or a 9% increase with layoffs in the teens.
Welcome to Montclair Mr. Dashield. You will fit right in.
Out of the slow cooker and into the deep fryer! Poor guy has no idea what's about to hit him. Wonder if he has ever watched one of Montclair's Town Council meetings and seen the utter madness that transpires. Good luck to him, although he does not have a lot to live up to with the departing manager.
