The Montclair Parking Authority and Township Council will meet today (Dec. 16) for contract renegotiations, MPA Executive Director John Teubner told Baristanet.
"The contract should be decided by the year end and this will be the first meeting on renegotiating it," Teubner said. "It's not a hostile negotiation and we will largely be redefining the relationship between the two parties and discussing what sort of assistance and other shared services can be arranged."
Teubner said the MPA, created in 2002, was given the job of building and developing the Crescent Deck parking lot by the town council at the time. The subsequent council in 2005 added the construction of the Bay St deck and town-wide parking operations, and the current council tasked it with parking enforcement.

Why do they need to redefine their relationship? Help me, help me.
This should give the council good practice for future re-negotiations with the Montclair Hair Salon Authority, the Montclair Shuffleboard Authority, the Montclair Mahjong Authority and the Montclair Dance Instruction Authority.
Save youself some time, Baristanet. Next just time say "somebody's meeting about something".
Really, there is no useful information in this post.
I would like to see the town of Montclair initiate a hostile takeover. Perhaps we can conquer Glen Ridge. Or Verona.
Montclair Council, Parking Authority to Renegotiate Contract = Let's play with the numbers so our constituents don't realize that we collect less than we cost.
The Montclair Times had an excellent article on this subject back in November.

The MPA is a leftover from the last administration. It was smoke and mirrors then. Unless they can show some value-added then there's no reason for their continued existence.
What the heck does the "Executive Director" of the parking authority do all day, all week, all month, all year?! I sure as heck could make a profit, if I was in charge of the parking in this town!
The news here relates to the shortfall in revenue promised the town under the current agreement.
While $1.4MM was due each year, last year it was missed by close to $300,000 and this year it will be missed by $600,000.
The agreement will now be re-examined to see if the number should be lowered.
Remember: I'm reporting the news. I just found out last week. I was not asked to be part of the "re-negotiations." Nor am I on any committee, or a liason, or any such thing.

So if I underpay my real estate taxes by 43 percent, will the town re-examine my amount due to see if it should be lowered?

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player.
John Teubner should resign.....effective January 1, 2010. MPA is totally smoke and mirrors.....the amount of shops/restaurants for the Bloomfield Ave. district doesn't warrant having 2 massive decks plus metered parking on the streets and ground lots. Commuters are still getting freebies around the Bay Street Station by parking on streets that have all day parking. We have complained for the last 3 years but still no movement on 2-3 hr. parking limits on our street. More lost revenue......great job all around.
In an effort to deal with drivers exceeding the speed limits on residential streets, will the Montclair council consider whether the speed limits should be raised? If the posted speed limit in front of my house were raised to 75 miles per hour, there would be hardly any speeders.
Forget Bay Street. Every morning when I walk my dog, I watch the rail commuters park on Chestnut, Grove, Christopher, essentially any street that does not have the 3 hour window. Give me the ability to write tickets and I'll cover my weekly salary and benefits in 15 minutes of time.
This morning, my garbage was not taken since someone threw a few bottles into the trash can that the recyclers spilled when picking up my recyclables. Of course there are countless residents who don't even recycle on my street whose trash gets picked up with regularity. PLEASE PRIVATIZE THE SANITATION ALREADY!!! We have the laziest workforce I have ever scene. God forbid my cans are actually empty and left standing once in a while.
