December 18, 2009To: All School Principals
On December 15th, 2009 at an approximate time between 3:40-4:00 in the afternoon at a school bus stop located at the corner of Elm Street and Lincoln Street, a 10 year old Montclair elementary student reports that after being dropped off by her school bus, she began walking home and when she was midway between Irving Street and Maple Avenue she noticed a four door white vehicle pulled over and from the open passenger side window, a white male said "I'll give you a ride to your house," then leaned over in the car as if he was reaching for the door handle to open it. The child stated that at this point she began to run into the courtyard of an apartment complex. At that time the child indicated that she saw the car drive east on Lincoln Street, then make a left onto Maple Avenue, travelling north.
Vehicle Description. The vehicle is described as being a white, older model, four-door, compact car. The child was unable to identify the make and model of the vehicle and was unable to obtain a license plate number.
Suspect Description
The suspect is described as a white male with short cropped salt and pepper hair, medium build, possibly in his late 40's or early 50's, with a small amount of facial hair just below his lower lip. The child stated that the individual was wearing a gray colored hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The child said that she had never seen the man before but would recognize him if she saw him again.
If anyone in your school or community has seen a man driving a white, older model, four-door, compact car, who matches the description reported by the student, please contact the Montclair Police Department at (973) 744-1234

What are the odds that this guy was just trying to help the kid out?
What gets me is that many, possibly most, 9-13 year olds can identify a poodle, from a collie and know what a german shepherd as well as a cocker spanial looks like, as well as a bull dog and others. Yet, seldom do these dogs pose a threat to a young person, if left alone and not teased. Yet, many school-age children and young people can I.D. them. (Thanks in part to their parents).
Imagine if they were (better) taught to identify brands of cars! That is more important (at their age) than I.D.ing dogs! "" a white, older model, four-door, compact car "" Do you know how many thousands of cars in just Essex County could fit THAT description? IF IF IF the young lady could have at least known the BRAND of car, and gotten 3 letters of the license plate, they would have a decent chance to find the car's owner, but know he is lost, until he strikes again, and the next victim may enter the vehicle!
Brand (or model) + Partial Licence Plate = Gotch ya
Based on some of the bizarre looks and comments I've gotten from young kids simply walking my child up to a school door in Montclair, I give these kinds of reports basically no weight whatsoever. While there are terrible things that happen in this country to children walking to or from school with staggeringly infrequent occurrence, these reports happen all the time. I think there is a certain kind of parent who has trained their young child (particulalarly daughters) to see scary men (particularly of a different race) everywhere.
Snappy, Snappy, Snappy, now you say that little kids are giving you bizarre looks and comments? The next thing you know, they'll be sending you "veiled" threats. Get some help and please, stay away from the schools.
Jesus, Bill, do you just sit on these boards all day long waiting for me to post? Get a life man. You're starting to look really pathetic. Somehow I have a hard time picturing the couple who owns Egans trolling message boards day and night looking to lash out at customers. Me thinks your the one who might need some help.
Me thinks your a kook.
I think you both need to go back and re-take high school level English Grammar 1, based on "you're" use of "your."
Offering someone, child or adult, a ride is not a crime.
