Weather wonks are predicting a monster Nor’Easter to smack New Jersey, bringing more heavy rain, sleet, wind and snow tomorrow, Thursday Feb. 25 and Friday Feb. 26. AccuWeather.com says the storm is threatening to cause power outages, widespread damage from falling trees, and impact travel plans over a wide area. According to the National Weather Service, the nor’easter will hit the tri-state area sometime tonight. Most of the heavy snowfall will blanket southern and central Jersey, Manhattan and northwestern New York.. Baristaville will likely only see heavy sleet and rain.
There’s a wet weather forecast for today in Baristaville. Bundle up for more chilly weather with temperatures hovering in the mid-thirties. Driving or walking, watch out for rapid freeze ups on the roads. Snow isn’t predicted until around 2 a.m. Thursday morning.

Snow thrower is gassed up. Juniper tree is tied up and fully erect. Snow shovels and salt are ready. Bird feeders filled. Firewood hoop filled. Fireplace cleaned. Going to food distribution store later for lots of comfort food and some essential nutrients. Hmmmmnnn, what else?
Too bad I don’t drink anymore or I’d go on a shopping spree at Bottle King.
    I think we’re good.
Good luck with the storm folks and DO NOT PUT YOUR BODY PARTS ANYWHERE NEAR THE AUGER OR CHUTE ON YOUR SNOW BLOWER!

Well of course the storm will be no problem for you MB.
After all, you’ve got Juniper Tree tied up….etc.

of course the Iceman is ready for snow…and ice. Whenever we have a major storm, I like to make a batch of chili. Something comforting about eating a bowl of hot chili in front of a roaring fire…of course a dram or two of a peaty Islay scotch doesn’t hurt either.

Mellon, how is your buddy doing, by the way?
p.s. our old fashioned method may not work as well this time, since one of our shovels broke last week under the heavy weight of snow that had been piled in the back of hubby’s pickup. Some kid is going to get the short straw!

    Kay,
The Juniper tree is fine, thanks. I did a wee bit of ad-hoc engineering involving two eyebolts, a rope, porch columns and a tie down cinch. Now it’s standing tall and proud!
Those trees are very prickly though, and punish those who would enter their branches. :-)

Of course this is supposed to happen on the one day I have to go into the city.
Hopefully it will be cleared up enough Friday morning to take the train.

Noon forecast is for 6″ to 12″ of heavy, wet snow across Baristaville with high, gusty winds. I don’t think I will watch the News from Spring Training this evening. Florida: God’s Waiting Room! Although I do have my seats for Opening Day (night) at Fenway. Against some team from NY — forget their name…

My snow shoveller is making a fortune this year. Guess there’s no business like snow business.

Conan – you’re a Sawx fan??!! Me, too. It’s nice to know there are a few of us here.

    Don’t get too polite, Iceman.
If we all became genteel, public interest in the Baristanet site would take a nose dive.

Mellon, actually I was thinking more of your pal who had the run-in with the snowblower….
but your juniper solution sounds similar to our indoor Christmas tree solution from 2007… ;D

Judging by the mayhem in the Shop-Rite parking lot, we’re going to get more than 12″

I don’t think the ancient Egyptian version of Shop Rite was half as chaotic when the plagues of boils or lice were forewarned to Pharaoh by Moses and Aaron.
    Snow in the winter!
    Egads!

    Kay,
    Oh yeah!
He’s been to work once with his fingers bandadged. His doctors are telling him it will be about 6 weeks until he can use them without excruciating pain.
He showed up at work on Monday and seemed to be in pretty good spirits.
He said when he entered the Emergency Room after having his wife drive him there during the height of the last storm, the doctor there saw him with the bloody paper towels around his hand and said one word, “Snowblower”… Apparently there were a few other injuries that were treated that day. I had no idea that so many people were getting mauled by these things. Considering my ledgendary clumsiness, I’m surprised I’ve been injury free the last 20 years using them, lawn mowers, hedge clippers etc..
    Thanks for asking. :-)

Hollister — there is a support group for NYC-area Sox Fans who eatch games at Professor Thom’s Bar in the East Village (www.professorthoms.com). There is also a diehard group of metro Sox fans that go up every year by charter bus for opening day. They are called the BLOHARDS and their website is http://www.blohards.com. Mostly an older group — they were formed back in the 70′s, I think. As it turns out, I will be skipping opening night this year –it is a Sunday night game in Boston and I really have gotten a bit too long in the tooth for all night bus rides between Boston and New York.

Ohhhhhh…. Mary and Joseph! What a horror that must have been! Hope he gets better soon.
Meantime MKLG has done me a great service as this was going to be my regularly-scheduled grocery shopping night. We are wiped out of some important items (such as Reese’s Puffs and strawberries) so I will have no choice but to attempt the parking lot. (sigh) In fact, this bad timing happened to me last storm too, and I was one of the idiots at A&P in the self-checkout line, holding a box of strawberries and a gallon of milk. (I did wonder, however, at the lady ahead of me who was buying at least 4 cases of canned soda. Before a snowstorm? really? Because if it weren’t for my dear boy who really won’t eat much else in the way of fruit, you can bet I would NOT have been there at the time. but, Whatever…)

I did the Stop-n-Shop after work and with the exception of the whack jobs in the parking lot it wasn’t that bad. Of course I ‘Shop from Home’ so I didn’t have to actually go into the store.

Shop Rite was so bad that I would have had to park by the backhoe again like I did on December 23rd, so I went to A&P. At least I could park there. And I hereby officially withdraw my earlier crack about the lady with the soda, because A&P had 2-liter Coke on sale for $.89 so I got like, 10 of them. Mea culpa!

Conan, thanks for the info on the Sox support group. Been a Sox fan for sooooo long. Maybe Hollster and I can do opening day, but I, too, am much too long in the tooth for long night bus rides!

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
