Sick and tired of the over publicized Academy Award-nominated films this year? For the first time ever, the underdog films movie lovers rarely get a chance to see will be playing at Montclair State University. The Montclair Arts Council and MSU’s Film Department will be presenting the Underdog Film Festival featuring Oscar-nominated shorts. The festival will be held this Sunday, Feb. 28 in University Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“There is no one else showing these movies in northern New Jersey,” Montclair Art Director, Jim Peskin says.
“Corinna Sager was a huge part in putting everything together,” Peskin says.
Sager produced an Oscar nominated film called “Ferry Tales” a number of years ago.

She did a similar screening of documentaries in New York, which sparked the idea.
“We know very few opportunities for documentary film makers to have their film shown,” Peskin says.
The Under Dog Film festival will be showing 12 out of the 15 nominated films.
A special screening of the Oscar nominated, feature length investigative documentary The Cove about the hidden cove in Japan where dolphins are caught for marine parks will also be shown at the end of festival.
Tickets are $10 for the morning, $15 for the afternoon, $20 for the whole day and $10 for The Cove only. Both full day and afternoon tickets include The Cove.
For a list of the movies that will be showing, trailers and more details, go to Destination Montclair.

I once saw some footage of Japanese ‘fishermen’ slaughtering dolphins with spears in a cove.
The dolphin’s shrieks of pain and fear were horrifying. I hope all those guys developed bone cancer and died lonely, painful deaths.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
