Unconventional Confections

Hey Romeos and Juliettes! Plan on buying that ubiquitous red foil heart, filled with sub-standard milk chocolates, pumped full of the-furthest-thing-from-cream flavored filling? Don’t do it! There is no romance, and no excuse for, succumbing to cliché this Valentines Day, when Montclair is full of fantastic sweet boutiques that enrobe patrons in romance from the moment they open the door.
Dulce, the nostalgic candy boutique, offer many distinct chocolate and non-chocolate options for Valentines day gifting. Dulce also sells a variety of gummy candies, including the perennial favorites, Swedish fish, Coca-Cola bottles, Peachie Penguins, and fruit slices, as well as a variety of licorice, and even clodhoppers (vanilla fudge covered graham crackers), sold in bulk, at $2.99 per ¼ pound. Among other non-chocolate options, Dulce sells exquisite marzipan, each individually wrapped, and sold at $2 a piece.

If gluten free goods are what you’re seeking, Dulce has that covered, too, in chocolate and non-chocolate varieties. Skittles, Jolly Ranchers and Smarties, all gluten-free (as per the manufacturer) are also sold in bulk. Among their most popular gluten free items, (and extraordinarily high in antioxidants), are Bissinger’s Cherry and Blueberry Bark, $5 for a 2.5 oz. bar. Dulce also carries Divvies, a line of allergen-free sweet tooth satisfiers. They offer complimentary gift wrapping and 10% off Valentines Day gifts (some exclusions do apply). For last minute Valentine’s gifting, Dulce is open today and tomorrow from noon to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.

The Chocolate Path
is offering fantastic last minute, yet unique, Valentines gift options. The enormously popular, and equally addictive, Burnt Caramel and Sea Salt Chocolate Bar for $8.99 is a fantastically indulgent option sure to simultaneously satisfy sweet and savory urges. The Chocolate Path also has gift boxes of four Askinosie Chocolate bars for $29.99, as well as heart shaped boxes filled with 17 decadent, dark chocolate truffles for $30. This Saturday and Sunday, they will also be serving Chocolate Moderne’s Kama Sutra Hot Chocolate for patrons courageous enough to try. The Chocolate Path’s hours for the weekend will be today from 10-6 p.m, Saturday, from 10 – 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 – 4 p.m.

“Montclair is full of fantastic sweet boutiques…”
So you write ads for (only) two of them.

Nothing says “I Love You” like a 2-lb bag of Swedish Fish…exactly what is romantic about buying a bulk bag of generic candy?
Do they also sell cards that say, “My love for you will last as long as it takes for you to pick the red goo out from between your teeth?”
I agree not to cheap out on the chocolate, but you’ve gotta be kidding me if you think a bag of coke bottles is the right direction to go in.

I agree Holsten’s is just simply great for confections. Ice Cream is great too, and the Owners are nice people and employ many kids from around here for years and years!

$3 per 1/4 pound? A quick search on Google tells me you can get a 14oz (nearly a full pound) for $4.50.
Isn’t the point of buying things in bulk to save money?

That burnt caramel and sea salt dark chocolate bar is priced dearly, but whew… that is some awesome treat. I buy chocolates for my dearest ones at the Chocolate Path every Xmas, and feel lucky to have a store with such a great selection nearby.
    mmmmmmmmm chocolate

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges.
