Montclair State University is hosting “Contemplating China’s Past and Future: A Festival of Chinese Arts and Humanities” from Feb. 24 to April 25.
Chinese art exhibits, concerts, film screenings and cuisine are just a few of the events that will be held over the next couple of weeks, all of which are open to the public.
This Thursday (3/4), the George Segal Gallery will feature 50 scrolls by eight leading artists from China. A panel will also be held with the featured artists as they answer questions about their art.
The panel will start at 2 p.m.

“Contemplating China’s Past and Future: A Festival of Chinese Arts and Humanities”
I love how “present” is not so present in the title. I suppose if you want to have a festival of Chinese culture and history, it’s probably best to omit 1949-present.
No dissidents to speak? And MSU calls itself a “University”?
I wonder how much “sponsorship” costs?
“Visiting scholars Xu Fenghua (Donghua University), Chang Yu (Beijing Jiatong University), and Aihua Li, (Mathematics, Montclair State University) discuss personal impressions and comparisons of education in China. Co-sponsored by Montclair Board of Education.”
Honest question: Has anything ever happened anywhere in the world about which you did not have an immediate complaint?
Next ROC post, as a shimmering contrast to his view of recent Chinese culture:
“How American culture hit it’s radiant zenith when Ronald Reagan was in charge”
(…or, how 1980′s American art, architecture, fashion and literature was absolutely magnificent…)
I don’t understand what you’re complaining about, ROC. The item clearly says that some of the artists will be on hand to discuss their work. If that doesn’t count as the present I don’t know what does.
Of course the artists are probably selected by the Ministry of Thus and Such. Dissidents need exit visas and financial support. So let the college kids can ask the artists uncomfortable questions, which the artists will answer vaguely.
