Montclair State University students are organizing a VDAY fundraiser, part of a global movement to end violence against women and girls.
“A memory, a monologue, a rant and a prayer” will be performed on April 29 and 30th at 8 p.m. in Life Hall’s Dance Theater, room 123.
Tickets are $5 for students and MSU faculty and $10 for the general public. All proceeds will go towards the Hamlin Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This hospital performs corrective surgeries for women due to obstetric fistula, which develops after a severe or failed childbirth or violent rape.
This year’s goal is to raise about $1,600, which will be enough money for four women’s surgeries.
Last year’s VDAY event raised $4,000 for the Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Essex County Safe House (a shelter for battered women and children).
