vanvleck-1.jpgNature has placed its stamp on spring, as evidenced by the explosion of greenery and blooms in Baristaville. Have you a special spot in your garden for a new plant? Head to the Van Vleck House & Gardens‘ Plant Sale this Saturday, where you can pick out your favorites from 12 varieties of homegrown heirloom tomatoes, along with hundreds of annuals, hanging baskets, flowering shrubs, perennials and vines that were started from seed and nurtured at Van Vleck’s greenhouses.
Other items will be on offer, too, such as expert landscaping advice, mosaic garden sculptures by Montclair artist Anne Oshman, and an indoor Garden Boutique offering unique accessories for outdoor spaces, by Garden Cottage.
The May 1 sale runs from 9:00am through 4:00pm, and admission is free.

vanvleck2-1.jpgHorticultural expert Wanda Knapik, the owner and founder of My Local Garden, will be on hand at 11:00am to talk about how, and why, to grow heirloom tomatoes in your backyard.
Among the many highlights will no doubt be the fragrant Chinese wisteria that entwines the columns on the rear porch of Van Vleck House, which is at its peak.
If you can’t make it on Saturday, all isn’t lost. There will be a preview party on April 30, from 6:00 to 9:00pm, replete with cocktails and live jazz by Julian Lee & Gang. Call 973.744.4752 to reserve tickets or for details. More information can also be found here.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
