In Which Our Hero Visits Smashburger from Ozersky.TV on Vimeo.

Smashburger on Bloomfield Ave got big press on the Huffington Post when Josh Ozerzky, burger afficionado, award-winning food writer and author of a book on hamburgers paid a visit recently. Watch the video and, if you can get past his frustration over the address, find out his verdict.

I’ve had it, it was Great. Fried Veggies instead of French Fries are great! Bun is really good…..
SmashBurger Burger itself dominates Elevation or Five Guys.
Five Guys has best French Fries(Fried in Peanut Oil) and Free Peanuts in the shell while you wait and for snacking. Warning for Peeps with Allergy right on the door!
Smash Burger is worth a try!

yeah bummer… it’s in Glen Ridge (not Montclair)… but who knows where that is, I tell everyone “it’s near Montclair” … and i agree the address scheme in NJ specifically is horrible. Maps say street names, streets have County numbers, watchung town/street, Glen Rock, Glen Ridge, Ridgewood Ave/Town … (probably 100 or so of those in tri-town (GR, Blmfld, Montclair)…
IMHO — too much garlic (or something) in those burgers.. they are pretty damned good though!

How does an intolerable boob like this get a public forum to do this? So unlikeable I hope I never see his face again.

Snappyguy you are right about him being a b00b. BTW, this place is way over hyped. Burgers are way too salty. Tried it twice now. the beef is just not that good. Greasy fries.
Give me Tierney’s or even Elevation ( the service adn food was great there ) before this joint.
I don’t understand all the fuss. Sorry, someone enlighten me I guess.

I wasn’t overly impressed, but then again I don’t eat red meat. :) However the chicken sandwich was pretty good, especially liked the bun! Hubby didn’t like his burger and said it was very greasy. Kid 1 liked the burger but I think more than that, it was the fun of Going To Smashburger. Kid 2 liked the chicken fingers but it’s nearly impossible to mess that up.
My only commplaint was that the gal at the counter, while it was pretty clear we had no idea what we were doing or how the process worked, was rushing us by saying “anything else” after every single item I ordered (and I wouldn’t say it was overly crowded). Plus she didn’t ask “would you like anything to drink with that” and instead herded us through as fas as possible, resulting in us having to go back up to buy drinks. Not how they trained me back in the good ole’ days at Jack in the Box, umpty-nine years ago!

I don’t see any real hamburger aficionado frequenting ANY chain operation. If the kitchen cannot or will not deliver medium-rare then I don’t want to eat their meat at any temperature. If the burger requires something other than meat & a roll to be acceptable then it simply NOT acceptable.
Try the first tier – Pal’s, Next Door or Aurthur’s in Morris Plains. Go crazy and go to the River Palm Terrace in Fairlawn at lunch time – fabulous burger and the best fries anywhere. Second tier is Tierney’s and other places with good bar food.
The rest is simply a waste of your time.

Nope, you omitted “TheLandmark” on Mt. Pleasant Ave in Livingston. Constantly fabulous burgers, fries, & brews. My vote for the #1 burger in Essex County, hands down.

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
