At noon today, torrents of rain were soaking Church Street in Montclair, and the crowds were all clogging the entrance of Raymond’s waiting for tables. But one small group of people enjoyed a leisurely lunch outside under a gigantic umbrella. Seated left to right: Montclair building owner and landlord Paul Zimmerman, Montclair BID’s Tom Lonergan and Councilor Cary Africk. Despite the teeming rain, the trio was dry as baby powder. Zimmerman, says Lonergan, had actually purchased the umbrella eight years ago “to show what Church Street could be if there were a sea of umbrellas.” The sea of umbrellas never materialized, but this one sure did the trick today. Lonergan says he, Africk and Zimmerman were “talking shop about what’s good in town.” It was the first time Africk and Zimmerman had met.

Glad to have the opportunity to publicly thank Paul for use of his umbrella for so many years. One of the most generous acts ever!
So, do we get to find out “what’s good in town”?
Fascino, and Raymonds.
I still think the Town could use more good restaurants, particularly ethnic.
We also discussed the resurgence of apartment rentals and the economy in NYC.
One of the most generous acts ever.
If that’s true, it doesn’t say much for the current state of generosity.
Nick Lewis asked me to convey a message.
“Please stay out of Ward 3 and don’t talk to my constituents Councilor Africk”.
