UPDATE: 10 p.m.: We’re hearing of a power outage on North Crescent in Maplewood.
UPDATE: 8 p.m.: Thousands of PSE& G customers have reported losing power and Baristaville tipsters are sending in word that streets in the South End of Glen Ridge, Midland Ave (near Lorraine)and Madison Street are without power. And from Twitter, @burbtimes says Vernon Terrace in Bloomfield has been without power for most of the day.

With the temperatures rising, power outages are starting.
Power is out in Maplewood near the main library on Baker Street. If you experience any blackouts send us a tip.
Update: A Maplewood resident reported that her power is back on.
Bloomfield has set up a cooling station at the Civic Center located at 84 Broad St. Bloomfield has also issued an energy consumption notice that is in the jump.

7/6/2010 2:54:06 PM EST – This is an announcement from the Township of Bloomfield. During this extreme heat emergency, the township is encouraging all residents to conserve energy without making themselves uncomfortable. Although it is not anticipated, brown outs or blackouts may occur. PSE & G will be working around the clock to correct any problem. All residents should keep themselves hydrated during this period by drinking plenty of fluids. The township has also established our Civic Center located at 84 Broad St. as a cooling station. The civic center will be opened 24 hours a day during this heat emergency. Anyone needing transportation to the civic center should call 973-743-9074.

houses on North Mountain Avenue in Upper Montclair are out, they also lost power last night for several hours.
nj transit trains have been cancelled too because of the weather.
