Need a Quick Dining Room … or Restaurant?

table 8 chairs again.jpgAnybody who ever ate at the late, lamented Table 8 on Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair will immediately recognized these “crushed raspberry red velvet chairs” — now on sale for $30 a pop on Craigslist. Fifty of the chairs, which originally cost $150 each, are available. Makes me sad to see one of Montclair’s finest restaurants sold off piece by piece, but I remember those chairs as comfy, and they probably would look good in my dining room…

Sad to see a number of Montclair shops and restaurants close. I know the economy stinks and has been especially tough on small businesses. But is the township and the business community doing enough to promote local businesses? Businesses in my hometown, comparable in size and make-up to Montclair — stay open late into the evening one Friday a month. Businesses offer special deals. Streets are blocked off, there is live music of all kinds and other activities for all ages. It is very popular…a way for people to get out and see their neighbors and, just as importantly, support local business. Even in a down economy, perhaps that kind of energy would help.

Those chairs were comfy. Too bad. I agree with most of what BigJerzee said — one thing they could do is stop charging for parking after 6:00.

They posted it on Craigslist but haven’t responded to my e-mail to buy one. Maybe they are only selling them in bulk not individually.
