st seb carn A.jpgEven though summer is slowly coming to an end, the events occurring throughout Baristaville this weekend are filled with food, music, and fun. Combined with the promise of continued beautiful weather, it’s shaping up to be a good time to get out and about.
Bike/Walk Montclair’s monthly Courteous Mass ride is tonight (Friday, Aug. 27) at 7 p.m., leaving promptly from the Upper Montclair Train Station. Friendly ride, bring a helmet.
This year marks the 84th Annual Saint Sebastian Feast and Carnival, a long-time Italian tradition that will run all weekend at Kaveny Field in Montclair. The festival begins at 5 pm on Friday, and 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday. A procession will take place at 3:30 pm Sunday starting from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Saturday is mostly about the food, plus some home made remedies. First, the food.
Beginning at 11 am, Pacari Chocolate will be hosting a free chocolate tasting at The Chocolate Path in Montclair. There will be a variety of different samples to choose from, including chocolate bars made from Ecuadorian cocoa beans, as well as raw chocolate.
Later on in the day, Chef’s Lab in Montclair will be offering a cooking class focusing on the classic foods of the 1950s. Learn how to make Classic Meatloaf, Mushroom Canapes, Chocolate Chiffon Pie and more. Class starts at 5:30 pm on Saturday and costs $65 per person. Contact the school at 973-746-1260 to sign up or for more information.
Also, learn how to make your own self care remedies at home using common items from your cupboard with Tom Nielson from 3:00 – 4:00 pm at Montclair’s Go Lightly. RSVP to Jen or call 973-744-7889. Pay what you can afford for the class and barters welcome.
Start your Sunday off with a vinyasa yoga class at Garden State Yoga in Bloomfield. Vinyasa yoga is a physical style of yoga that links breath with movement in order to achieve a light, strong body and a calm mind. The hour-long class starts at 1 pm and there is a $5 suggested donation for local charity.
The rest of Sunday’s offerings can bring music to your ears. Parlor Hair Studio in Montclair is hosting a musical fundraiser to help those affected by the BP oil disaster featuring local performing acts Bern & the Brights, The McMickle Brothers, The Porchistas, and Hicoup. Aside from the music, there will be food, beer and wine, along with arts and crafts auctions and giveaways. The fundraiser begins at 2 pm Sunday and costs $5 per person, with all proceeds going to Matter of Trust.
Baristaville musician Peter Ngqibs will be hosting a charity concert called Finding Infinity in Maplewood at Prospect Presbyterian Church (646 Prospect Street) at 5 p.m.
To bring the weekend to a close, The Sidney Green Street Band will be performing Sunday at The Great Notch Inn in Little Falls at 6 pm.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
