Yesterday afternoon the Montclair Art Museum encouraged hundreds of patrons to begin or expand their own art collections by hosting the first Collecting Affordable Art sale.
Inspired by the museum’s current exhibition Living for Art: The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection, a diverse group of local and emerging artists sold their work to the public at prices between $50 and $500. Like the Vogels, who amassed more than 4,000 pieces of modern art on a civil servant income, the intention of the event was to make art collecting accessible to everyone, regardless of budget constraints. Pieces were sold between $50 to $500, directly by the artists.
To further encourage the general public to appreciate art, admission to the museum galleries was free all day. Mayor Jerry Fried was there helping out at his wife Karen’s booth of encaustic paintings.
Participating artists shown in the photos above include: Hana Aviv, Jonathan Bond, Andrea Caldarise, Melissa Eder, Eileen Toner Petre, Peter Emerick, Dan Fenelon, Robin Fruchter, Gayle Mahoney, Kristin Krongard, Sky Kim, John Lee, Jennifer Anne Moses, Karen Nielson-Fried, Claire Rosen, Scott Sorrentino, Terry Boddie, Vicki Pollack, Lisa Westheimer, and Kristen Zielenbach.

I was going to say Fried is the one with the hot package, but then refrained.
