Over 70 independently owned Montclair shops are celebrating the local retail scene this week — through October 9 — with a long list of events and promotions, including free bike rentals, food and tea tastings, cooking demonstrations, tarot card readings, trunk sales, salon services, demonstrations and seminars.
Anthony Cimolo, co-owner of Vanity Salon on Valley Road, and host of yesterday’s Susan G. Komen for the Cure fundraiser, is a big believer in shopping local. “People mistakenly think that bigger is better when it comes to shopping, but the personal service, unique offerings and local feel of the stores is a big part of what gives Montclair its charm,” Cimolo said. “Shopkeepers and customers need to work together to keep the town’s businesses strong. It’s sad when you go by a favorite local store, and it’s not there anymore,” he remarked, remembering one of his lost favorites, Copabananas.
Vanity will do its share to keep the party going this week with FREE haircuts (complete with blow dry and styling) and eyebrow shaping and waxing to any first-time visitor to the salon. “No catch,” promised Cimolo. “It’s just our way of inviting new people to come in and check us out.” For appointments at Vanity, call 973-744-2989.
