Political Lawn Signs Finally Get Their Day

Bloomfield, as usual, is sign central, with a potentially close mayoral race between incumbent Raymond McCarthy and challenger John Lazar, but the blue and red signs have popped up all over Baristaville over the course of the past weeks. Not to mention big slick mailers from candidates Pascrell and DiVincenzo as well as the inevitable robo-calls.

If you need information on where to vote or need help getting there, the Essex County Voter Information site is very comprehensive. The Superintendent of Elections in Essex County can be reached at (973) 621-5061 for legal issues regarding your voting experience.

For quick directions on where to vote, enter your registered address into Google’s voter map.

BTW, did you know that all 13 of New Jersey’s U.S. House seats are at stake in today’s election, and that every incumbent is running? Democrats currently hold 8 seats, Republicans, 5. Find more NJ election facts on NJ.com.

Now off to the polls, and later to our Baristanet election party at Egan & Sons in West Orange.

“BTW, did you know that all 13 of New Jersey’s U.S. House seats are at stake in today’s election, and that every incumbent is running?”

Did you know that all of the House seats in every state are at stake in every single congressional election every 2 years?

Here’s a question: is there some regulation that says political signs must be red/white/blue only, or it just assumed that the patriotic colors are necessary for people to pay attention to them?

who gives them the right to put their signs on my property without my permission.

    Could be worse, Conan.

    I voted for Mr. Notonourwatch.

LOL, croiag! I guess that in a runoff, Tirondala would beat Gikas, if the signs around Baristaville are to be used as a poll.

Of course the big winner just might be Forsale. I see his signs everywhere, these days.

I hope everyone is putting on their political whiplash-neck-braces “dissent” is just about to become the “highest form of patriotism” again. (well, dissent within the House, that is. Elsewhere it will still be cynical obstructionism).

    Its Forsale in a landslide!

    I’m ready, ROC!

And, I’m expecting unemployment at 5%, deficit reduction, and an end to terrorist threats by August 2012.

    “Forsale in a landslide!”

In a funny way, that’s actually literally true.

“I hope everyone is putting on their political whiplash-neck-braces “dissent” is just about to become the “highest form of patriotism” again”—ROC

I know how intellectual honesty and rigor are paramount in your self image, ROC, so I do expect to hear you use your above referenced phrase again and again, till the day you die, even when the dissenting party (that is, the party that exhibits the “highest form of patriotism) is not the one you prefer.

You will once again prove to yourself and Baristaville that you are far more intellectually honest and fiercely patriotic than all partisans throughout the political spectrum, above the fray, as it were.

…actually, cro, we have been far safer to date under the first two years of the Obama Administration than we were under the first two years of the Cheney Administration (certainly in terms of the horrors of civilian body count) , so it should be a somewhat slide to home base on that one.

…but don’t remind wuwt/tp2…he really really really wants to use his favorite term tonight (still works for Summer’s Eve, apparently)

“….than we were under the first two years of the Cheney Administration (certainly in terms of the horrors of civilian body count)…”

And 98% of those were Cheney’s hunting trips.

Yes, I like to make fun of my party, too. :=)

    good one MM !

I have no problem with dissent at all, Spiro. At times it’s key. I’m looking forward to it tonight, but Im under no illusion that this is a “victory”. If the Republicans return to being small-government conservatives then it’s a tremendous victory. If we just swap one set if drunken, profligate spenders for another then it will be the end of the GOP. Time will tell.

I’d say the chances are 50/50 at this point. At any rate the dangerous policies of the democrats will be severely constrained which is, after all, what the voters seem to want.

    Have a nice evening Spiro.

Same to you ROC, that was a unusually fine post.
But as you know, small government really means very little without the abolition of entitlement programs.
And if they cut government spending on education, the Tea Party signs in 2011 could be even more embarrassing than the ones we saw this year.

Ah yes Spiro .. entitlements .. that discussion could go on forever

Spiro did you see my final comment to you re: Israel?

I’ll check back later tonight I’m off to an election party :-)

Dag, I think that thread was removed before I could see your final comment, some other time you can fill me in if you like, have fun at the party !

Isn’t it illegal to plant campaign signs on public property/right-of-way? The county should make Straten pay to remove all his clutter.

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
