Thanksgiving 8K Run in GR, Then Breakfast With a Champion

Glen Ridge’s 11th annual Ashenfelter 8K Classic and one mile Ridger Romp on Thanksgiving Day offers a post race breakfast where you can meet local hero and Olympic gold medalist Horace Ashenfelter (Helsinki, 1952 steeple chase). The 8K course is USA Track and Field certified with a combination rolling and flat terrain, the race is open to runners and walkers of every ability. Commemorative New Balance apparel awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group plus silver plated bowls to the top male and female winners and top Glen Ridge winners; cash awards to the top three masters athletes. Additionally, the top 100 male and top 100 female winners will receive the commemorative top 100 finisher coffee mug. Everyone who participates will also burn some pre-Thanksgiving calories. And you can donate your old or un-used athletic shoes to soles4souls. Collection boxes will be available at the A8K Registration.

    Those are some unhealthy looking dudes. If that’s what running does to you, I’ll stick with coffee for my energy kick.

    That’s at the finish line, of course, they’re gonna look tired. This is one of my favorite races. Dan Murphy does a great job every year.

    Wow, great footage of Mr. Ashenfelter winning the race in 1952. He is the classic gentleman and I may have to enter just have breakfast with him.

    I agree. Looks like the Bataan Death March. That said, I’m looking pretty much the same after a 10K.
