There’s no white stuff yet, but the township of Bloomfield reminds residents to get their cars off the streets the minute it starts falling. Better yet, do it now. Here’s the official announcement, which came by email, text and robocall.
This is an Announcement from the Township of Bloomfield. Due to the pending snow storm that is predicted for today, we would like to request that all residents move their cars off of the street once the snow starts to fall. We also would like to remind all residents that live on snow emergency streets that it is mandatory that their cars be moved once the snow starts to fall. A list of snow emergency streets can be found in the Bloomfield Buzz or on the Emergency Announcement Section of the township website www.bloomfieldtwpnj.com . Your assistance during this emergency will enable the township to clear the streets efficiently and expediously.

and still they park on the streets, within 1 inch of a driveway, like I do not HAVE to turn my wheels, or that I can “fly” over them. Courtesy is dead, when snow falls.
I know – we have neighbors that usually park right in front of our house, snow or not. At least today they seem to not be there so maybe we’ll actually get our street plowed properly – if Bloomfield ever gets to us, LOL!
I live on Broad Street, which is one of Bloomfield’s many designated snow emergency streets. Last year the police were very aggressively ticketing and towing cars that had been left parked on the street, which was a big change from the previous few years since I had moved here during which they seemed to do no enforcement at all.
Perhaps this was due to the change in leadership in the department, but whatever the case I was glad to see it.
We, here get the”MOHAWK haircut – type of plow-work. (One car width wide) right down the center of the street. Why ? In it’s wisdom (NOT) the town allowed a huge 5 story apartmednt to be built. They have a decent sized parking lot, but every tenant gets 1 spot. Directly across the street, ia a second ubber-large parking lot — but tht is for tenants with 2 cars – BUT they have to pay to park there (electric gates and all). Well, they don’t want to pay !! SOoooo. they street park. One street ? No way ! They manage to fill up 2 to 2 % a half streets with their vehicles and that 2nd lot remains 15-20 percent UN-used, at ALL times !! One dumb town to allow such nonsence & that is how & why we get the Mohawk Cut snow plow style.
meant to say “75 to 80 percent Unused.”
It’s easy enough to complain from the inside looking out. I live in an apt building in Bloomfield without assigned parking or even an option of a paid lot. I *have* to park on the street and have to worry about alternate side parking and no overnight parking signs to boot. Any suggestions as to where I should park besides the street? I really would like an option besides circling the block at night looking for a legal spot to park. Lucky for me, this car removal during a snow storm does not effect the street I park on. Am I expected to drive around town all day or go somewhere else while they clean the street? I much rather stay inside my apartment while it’s storming and the roads are dangerous.
Unfortunately there are not many options available to those without access to regular off-street parking. Bloomfield advises people to park their vehicles on school playgrounds or in a few specific parks after those lots have been plowed, which does little good for those seeking off-street parking during a storm.
YOU did not READ what I wrote!! THIS apartment has a big parking lot.
This apartment allows each tenant ONE space in it’s parking lot.
Directly next to this parking lot, is a SECOND parking lot, also owned by the apartment building. This second lot is FOR tenants WITH 2 cars – to park a 2nd car in. BUT it is NOT FREEE. The tenat has ro pay (I do not know how much…) to put a 2nd car there. SOOOoooo – many do not want to pay, SO
there park on the steet, ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET. EVERY NIGHT, EVERY WEEKEND, EVERY HOLIDAY! The homeowners on the street can never have company park on the street, as there is never a space, nights, weekends & hoildays
They drive expensive luxury cars, but do not want to pay to park in the apartment’s 2nd lot.
The homeowner’s get the “Mohawk” haircut effect snao plowing, and a driver has to back all the way back up the street IF another car turns in from the oppisite side.
Meanwhile the newly opaved, secure, electric gates parking lot of the apartment building (Lot #2) sit 85-90 percent empty, at all times!!
Bloomfield needs to force them to open thre lot FOR FREE, when it snows and 3 to 4 days afterwards, so the streets can actually be plowed the way they should be plowed.
iamgallagher, sadly for you, yes you do have a real headache parking
and worry regarding all the different days / times / etc., and where and when you can park. I had a car at college in Phila., Pa. (Temple Uni) & took car to school, in “Center City” ~ so…. I do understand.
But this is a different situation. They have a luxury parking lot, electric gates, illuminated, etc, but nobody wants to pay to park in it. It’s 85% empty 365 days a year. Read my prior explantion.
I am woman hear me roar and watch me shovel my OWN way out the door!
Just because I can.
Hope everyone gets out and about safely and is blessed with wonderful neighbors to help if you need them. They are few and far between.
And God bless the child who’s got his own.
Sandy, that is very interesting, I had no idea that other lot was paid only. I remember when that project was approved and don’t remember hearing that the second lot would not be free. I think that definintely needs to change!!! That’s terrible. Of course no one would want to park there if it wasn’t free. I remember parking was a big discussion point at the zoning board meetings on that project and I don’t think the idea of paying for that additional parking ever was mentioned! However, don’t blame the parked cars for the “Mohawk.” We had no parked cars over on Morse Ave and they STILL just went down the middle with one little swipe. We had about 8 feet of 2-foot deep snow beyond our driveway that we had to shovel out before we could get our car to the meager little strip of plowed street.
The problem with Bloomfields rules is there is no place for some of us to park. I got out of my spot on the street, got stuck around the corner and the firemen had to dig me out. I asked them where I could go park it off the street and they had no idea. The municipal lot hadn’t been plowed at all. I’ll gladly move my car but you have to give me a place to move it too.
