No Coal for Santa

Santa may put coal in the stockings of naughty little boys and girls. But the message of a group protesting in downtown Bloomfield yesterday was that coal is even more naughty. The Green Party of Essex and Passaic Counties had a Santa Claus and several elves collecting signatures opposing plans to build a coal power plant, PurGen, in Linden. They say it would add 5.3 million pounds of pollution to the air each year.

Considering the dissing of coal by a Santa impostor in that photo, there’s at least a 50-50 chance that ROC will offer us, yet again, a stirring post, displaying his undying devotion to the joys and benefits of burning the sooty or gooey remains of ancient plants and animals.

It is so irritating that you insist on calling it DOWNTOWN Bloomfield so consistently. Bloomfield does NOT have a downtown. Bloomfield has Bloomfield Center — and that is one of the special things about Bloomfield. I would say it is even very important to the identity of Bloomfield.

If you are going to represent your news operation as representing Bloomfield and being the source of knowledge about it, then you should at least know Bloomfield has no downtown! Do not call it that. Call it what it is: Bloomfield Center.

That said, I find it abhorrent that any new coal-fired energy plant would be built! In fact, I find it scary that it is even legal to do so any more — in light of efforts to try to REDUCE carbon emissions rather than add to them. There are plenty of cleaner options.

I might have remembered that herb is keen on leveling old growth forests of even the most miniscule size (see: Seton Hall)
To paraphrase Timon the meerkat, of Lion King fame, (ahhh, when my kids were young….) or perhaps Groucho himself “…..talk about yer old growth forests…” Imagine all those really ancient old growth forests your internal combustion engine defecates, upon compressing them and exploding them in their piston cylinders.
Good thing the vehicle housing that engine often has a rather large ( to match the male owner’s gut or female owner’s hind parts) American flag or bald eagle decal strategically placed on the colorfully painted sheet metal veneer hastily bolted to the frame just above the exhaust pipe. Sho’nuff, that’ll cut some patriotic slack for the driver who dutifully makes car loan payments on said inefficient vehicle.

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
