What Do You Need Before The Snow?

UPDATE 4:44 pm. School cancellations, including Bloomfield and West Orange, have already begun. See Barista Kids.

Montclair has cancelled the senior citizen bus for Wednesday. Numerous recycling and trash services will be cancelled if snowfall is more than three inches as 6 a.m. See bottom of story for details

Stay calm, you have Baristanet and Barista Kids to give you all the information on transit and school closings. NJ Transit has already sent out its snow advisory for tonight and tomorrow, planning systemwide cross-honoring starting at 7 p.m. — so your NJ Transit bus passes will be good on rail and vice versa — and a regular weekday schedule is planned for Wednesday. And you can access Clever Commute right on our home page.

So what does that leave? Well Gawker suggests stocking up on booze and junk food. I don’t feel completely ready for a blizzard unless I have a full supply of fake firewood (√) and fat-free half & half. (√) A doctor’s appointment for Wednesday has already been rescheduled (at the doctor’s request). The National Weather Service is now forecasting 8 to 14 inches, and snow could start as early as 3 p.m.

What do you need before the snow?

From the Township of Montclair:

The Senior Citizen bus and Evening Shuttle will not operate on Wednesday, January 12. Regular service will resume on Thursday, weather permitting.

If there are three or more inches of snow on the ground at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 12:

• Bulk Waste Collection in Section II will be suspended. The next Bulk Waste collection for Section II will be Wednesday, January 26, weather permitting.

• Refuse Collection will resume on the regular schedule on Thursday, January 13, weather permitting.

• Recycling in Area D will be suspended. There will be no makeup.

• Recycling Drop-off will be closed. Recycling Drop-off will reopen on the regular schedule on Friday, January 14, weather permitting.

• Christmas Tree pickup will be suspended and will not resume until all snow clearing operations are completed.

During snow events residents are encouraged not to park on streets to facilitate snow plowing. This will expedite snow clearing and allow a more complete clearing of the street.

Per Township Ordinance (297-32) it is illegal to deposit snow into the street. Please advise your snow plow contractor to remove snow deposited into the street during their snow removal operations.

– Please do not move cars into the street to clean snow from them.

– Please do not blow or shovel snow into the street — please aim your discharge chute away from the street.

My old landlord used kitty litter on our porch during a storm one year – it only made the walk slimy and gross. I slipped down the porch stairs, hit my head on a plank of wood, and my black coat was ruined from the dried-on kitty litter all over it. Awesome Times 2k8.

@jenn at least your landlord did something, mine didn’t do a thing. which resulted in my falling down the steps. my back STILL hurts. thanks ant for reading the lease carefully and missing where it said WE were responsible for snow removal. there are no decent landlords in this town.

Proactive doses of “Mother’s Little Helper” to help me get through the day with the 4 year old and 22 month old stuck in the house again. Many cups of coffee, switching from decaf to high test by afternoon to get a buzz on. Earplugs to drown out whining about “I want something else…to eat, drink, watch, play with.” Shall venture out soon to shovel out the car, although we’re going nowhere today. The icy air will clear my mind. Might bury myself in a snow drift and await rescue by a St.Bernard with flask of brandy. See you in April!

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
