This just in from the Montclair police:
Armed Robbery
On 2-3-11 at approximately 8:30 PM, police were dispatched to The Grove Street Convenience Store on Grove Street on a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, police spoke to an employee, who stated that less than ten minutes prior to police arrival, a male walked into the front door of the store and displayed what appeared to be a handgun wrapped in an orange and black scarf. The suspect approached one of the two employees and said, “Give me the money.” He then led the employee behind the store’s counter, where another employee was counting money, and repeated, “Give me the money.”
The employee handed over $180 from the register and another $660 that was being counted on the counter. The suspect said nothing else and ran out the front door. The suspect was last seen running east on Oxford Street.
The suspect is described as a heavyset black male last seen wearing blue jacket with a black mask covering his face and a black, wool-style watch cap on his head. He was also wearing what was described as a black and white Keffiyeh-style scarf.

Arrest
On 2-3-11 at approximately 3:30 PM, police responded to the area of Elmwood Avenue and Miller Street on a report of a male standing on a front porch with a knife, possibly attempting to gain entry to a residence. Police detained a male in the area of New Street and Washington Street who matched the provided description. The suspect initially provided an alias to officers who initially arrived on scene, but was recognized by his true identity by other officers who responded.
The 21 year old from Montclair, was placed under arrest after police confirmed that he had a warrant out of Montclair, with bail set at $2,500. He was also charged with obstruction of the administration of law by providing false identifiers. Bail for this charge was set at $1,000.
Arrest
On 2-3-11 at approximately 7:50 PM, police responded to Romany Liquor Shop on Glenridge Avenue on a report of an altercation between an employee and a customer. Police spoke to the employee who stated that a male walked into the store and intended to make a purchase when he did not have the full amount of money needed to buy the item. The man and the employee began yelling at each other before the suspect shoved the employee against a wall and stated, “I’ll see you after closing.” The man then left the store.
Police searched the area and located the suspect in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and North Willow Street. The 42 year old from Montclair was placed under arrest after police learned that he had a warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Office. Bail had not been set at the time of the report. He was later turned over to members of the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.
Arrest
On 2-4-11 at approximately 2:30 AM, police responded to the Hillside Police Headquarters to take custody of a 35 year old man from Newark, who was placed under arrest after it was confirmed that he had a warrant out of Montclair, with bail set at $1,678.
Drug Arrest
On 1-13-11 at approximately 4:30 PM, police were conducting an investigation in the area of Pine Street and Glenridge Avenue when they observed two individuals engaging in a hand exchange that was consistent with drug dealing. After the exchange, the pair parted ways and detectives were able to detain one of the males in the area of Grove Street and Claremont Avenue. As a result of the investigation, police recovered two bags of heroin from one man’s possession. The 20 year old from Verona was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was later released.
As a result of an ongoing investigation, detectives were able to identify the other individual involved. On 2-3-11 at approximately 10:35 PM, police was spotted in a Pontiac and stopped at Washington Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue in Glen Ridge. Police stopped the vehicle and placed the man under arrest. The 23 year old from Montclair, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance within five hundred feet of public housing. He was later released.
Suspicious Activity
On 2-3-11 at approximately 11:15 PM, police responded to Tuxedo Road on a report of a possible entry attempt to a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, police spoke to the caller who stated that on the 3rd at approximately 11:10 PM, she heard the car alarm to her Toyota Highlander being activated. She looked out the window and observed an individual running away from her driveway toward Glen Ridge.
The caller stated that the vehicle had been locked prior to the incident and that the suspect was unable to gain entry to the Highlander. There are no suspects at this time.
