Folk Music Master Ellis Paul in Maplewood, 2/27

Ellis Paul, a pioneer of the contemporary urban folk/pop scene and one of the leading voices in the American singer-songwriter tradition, will perform an intimate concert in Maplewood this Sunday, February 27, 7 p.m. at Highland Place Bar & Grill.

Known as the leader of the Boston School of Songwriting of the 1990′s (and the winner of an unprecedented 14 Boston Music Awards), Paul appeared with the all-star Guthrie tribute tour, “Ribbon of Highway, Endless Skyway” (along with Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, Billy Bragg and others) and is an honorary citizen of Guthrie’s birthplace, Okemah, Oklahoma, in recognition of all he has done to revive interest in the Dust Bowl troubadour.

However, Paul successfully bridges the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger with commercial success. His songs have been featured on hit TV shows and in the soundtracks of several Farrelly Brothers films, including “Hall Pass” with Owen Wilson and Jason Sudakis which will be released this week.

Paul recently recorded his 16th album — The Day After Everything Changed.

Opening for Paul will be rising folk star Liz Longley. To hear her 2010 performance at the Newport Folk Festival, click here.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
