While it’s still unclear as to the ultimate rules of New Jersey’s medical marijuana law, and there is dissent among the legislature and activists regarding Governor Christie’s restrictive version of the bill, six legally-sanctioned growers and sellers were announced this week. One of them is the Greenleaf Compassion Center in Montclair. One of two in the northern region of the state, Greenleaf’s Board of Trustees are listed as Joseph Stevens, president, CEO, Jordan A. Matthews and Robert J. Guarino.

The winning centers were selected from 35 applications, and were chosen for their strong financial backing, local zoning board and town government approval. The complete list of winners are: the Breakwater Alternative Treatment Center Corp., in Manalapan; Compassionate Care Centers of America Foundation, in New Brunswick; Compassionate Care Foundation Inc., in Bellmawr; Compassionate Sciences Inc., with a facility planned in Burlington or Camden County; Foundation Harmony in Secaucus; and Greenleaf Compassionate Center in Montclair.

  1. I can’t get my Rhododendrons to grow here. And these folks think they are going to have enough sunlight, heat, and proper soil composition to grow pot?

    They must be high already!

  2. My guess, Walter, is that it will be grown in a controlled environment, i.e. greenhouse, with the requisite number of male versus female plants.

  3. Oh sweet Jesus.

Suddenly I feel anxious, my back aches, can’t sleep-doc can I get something for the pain.

It’s a weed, it’ll grow most places, so I’ve heard.

  4. Hey yalls! Guess what? I decided I am going to grow medical marajuanas to help sick bros who need to get “high” (via ADD). Thinking this is a “good career move” 4 me. Want to have a safe job so that even after my life “turns to sh*t” and I have to “take care of kids + a naggy, annoying life partner”, I will always know that my life will pan out. Ne ways, prolly will move back in with the parents. Kinda feel a lot of weird vibes from them because of their expectations for my “life” and my lack of conformity to society’s antiquated norms. My life is meant for “so much more” than inhumane desk work. Hoping that growing the sweet danky dank will fufill their dreams and I can be a functional member of society.

Should I get my life together before it is too late?
Should I just go to “grad school”/law school to extend my youth?
Am I “above” 98% of the job opportunities that are available for me?
Does n e 1 know if it is true that every human on the Earths will die one day?

  5. Hmmm… Mrs. Martta seems to know slightly more about the process than your average bear …. HMMMmmmm… ;P

  6. @hrobrah – do you think this career move might be good for your “personal brand”?

  7. So what can we do to stem the addiction/abuse of legally prescribed drugs? I work with a pill popper who takes Valium to calm down before driving – and looks like a bobble head doll behind the wheel. I know this about her because it isn’t a secret and gets talked about openly when on the pone with her friends.

I also get to hear the details of the regular fender benders she gets into that is never ever her fault. I’ve said it before and I mean it – if she ever so much as taps my bumper I’m going to demand a drug test from her hair.

I’m a lot less concerned about people smoking weed them taking god knows what pills they get prescribed.

  8. Of course Compassionate Sciences, one of the first to be granted “permission” to get into the hemp business, is run by a Mr. Todd, brother of former governor Christine Todd Whitman.

    Only in New Jersey!

  9. It took 11 minutes for hrobrah to appear after megbeattie summoned him, and that includes whatever time he spent writing his missive. Oh, meg, girl, you have that guy on a string!

  10. Cannabis Indica is the variety that probably will be used for medicinal stock. It is supposed to produce more of a “body buzz” than a high, which is good for pain maintenance, and it grows very well in moderate climates (it comes from my favorite-sounding place, the Hindu Kush in India, Afghanistan and Pakistan). Primarily used there for hashish.

But what would I really know about it? 🙂

  11. I can hear the out-of-towners now as they pile out of the train and into the cab:

“Lord, take me downtown. I’m just looking for some kush!”

  12. I’m puzzled … the original post states, “… local zoning board and town government approval.” Did this happen while we were all asleep? I recall no discussion or mention.

Sounds like the selection process could stand a little sun shone on it. God bless NJ and its ways.

  13. The most important issue here is: Will this greenhouse/dispensary have adequate bicycle parking?

  14. Well, cro, some not only looked, but found:

    Numbers – Chapter 12

    1. Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses regarding the Cushite woman he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman. א.

  15. Male plants are good for one thing – rope. Cloning, full spectrum lighting, fans and hydroponics, obviate the need for drones and mitigates the impreciseness of Momma Nature.
