A few weeks back I brought in some cuttings of the outdoors, hoping to force a little spring out of them. Ever faithful to the cycle of nature (albeit helped by a thermostat set at 70), I now have lovely flowers blooming in my dining room.
And while I still haven’t found my favorite hat in the now exposed back yard (snatched by the dog and buried in a 2-foot snow drift back in January), I have found other long lost signs that indicate winter is history. The hyacinths are coming up in my sunny front rock garden, which can only mean the rest of my bulbs are also starting to wake up.
Once the Ides of March has come and gone, we’re sure to see the snow bells…

The before picture in the link and the after pic here are great! Fantastic results in such a short time, Erika! You have a green thumb. If I tried this at home, the before and after pictures would look identical. How often did you change the water and was it cold or tepid?
Very funny, Meg! I haven’t changed the water once, and didn’t really pay attention to the temperature when I started. Maybe I do have a green thumb, but I’m into low maintenance gardening and don’t baby any of my plants (except to water new plantings a lot and prune when I have the time). If they can’t hack it on what car I have to offer, we’re not meant for each other. Give the forsythia forcing a try..l couldn’t be any easier.
Erika, can I have some of your cuttings? Because I don’t have any forsythia. (I do have a cherry tree, though. Would that work?)
No forsythia? What a snob!
