Yesterday evening, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced that internist Dr. Raymond Russomanno, 67, was convicted on four counts of criminal sexual contact on a 27-year-old female patient who came to the doctor’s Bloomfield office complaining of back pain. However, the Randolph resident was found “not guilty” on two more serious counts of attempted sexual assault and seven other counts of criminal sexual contact. If he had been found guilty of these charges, the doctor would have faced ten years in state prison.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 6, and Russomanno faces up to 18 months in prison for this charge. Still ahead for Russomanno, however, is another case involving 15 other victims.
According to the county prosecutor’s office:
The state alleged Russomanno engaged in criminal sexual acts over the course of five visits in 2007. The last two visits were scheduled at the behest of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office to videotape the doctor.
Acting First Assistant Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino, who tried the case, said, “We are gratified with the guilty verdict on the four counts because it means he will never be able to practice medicine again.’’
In addition, Acting First Assistant Prosecutor Laurino said, “We will now move forward with another trial in the case of 15 other victims. We plan to try him on those charges after he is sentenced in this case.’’
The Honorable Joseph Cassini, 3rd, who presided over the trial, scheduled sentencing for June 6. When he is sentenced, Russomanno faces 18 months in prison. All together 16 victims have come forward alleging Russomanno engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct during doctor visits.
An Essex County grand jury returned a 51-count indictment against Russomanno. The case of the 27-year-old female patient was tried separately because it was the only case involving a videotape. The case involving the other 15 victims is expected to be handled in a single trial.

Well, GOOD MORNING to you too!!!!
What a creep!
Look at the glasses, guilty.
Nellie, prof has been away for a bit and its good to have him back.
But he won’t stay around long if you keep calling him a creep.
Never trust a man with a ‘comb-over’.
About 30 years ago a barber tried to ‘comb-over’ enable my rapidly thinning hair. I nearly ripped his arm off.
When I think of “comb over” and “creep” I think of the actor Stanley Tucci who so brilliantly portrayed such a creep in “The Lovely Bones.”
When I think of “comb over” and “creep”, I think of Donald Trump.
Something bothers me about this case. If whatever it was that happened — and the story does not say — was so bad as to rise to the level of criminal conduct needing prosecution, then why did the patient go back again and again and again and again for more? How bad could it have been if the patient kept going back for more?! Apparently the person went back at least three times before filing a complaint. If so bad, I would expect, and even demand, that they not go back a second time.
And I know the way other victims “come forward” is that the prosecutor goes through the doctor’s records and contacts all the other patients and asks if they had issues — and whether they did or not, enough will say they did.
Cro, I don’t know what you call trumps dome. It’s almost like a helmet, sort of like the Bob’s Big Boy character.
croi, Donald Trump might not run for President if you call him a creep and make fun of his hair.
He’s the reason most women I know prefer female doctors.
“Cro, I don’t know what you call trumps dome. It’s almost like a helmet, sort of like the Bob’s Big Boy character.”
Or George Jetson.
Croi, if it took you more than 3.876 ms. after you saw Mrs. Martta’s comment about “creeps” and “comb overs” to segue to El Donaldo, you are losing a step.
I believe I read somewhere that Trump’s hairstyle was created by the same architect who did the Sydney Opera House in Australia. I forgive the architect for the Opera House.
I was a patient of this Doctor. He was inappropriate with me during several visits. There were NO OTHER DOCTORS IN ANY OF THE SURROUNDING AREAS THAT TOOK MY INSURANCE PLAN OR NEW PATIENTS. I just moved to the area. I have a condition that required medication and that is why I had no choice to go to this Doctor for the prescriptions. This Doctor took over his uncle’s practice, and many of his patients were patients of his uncle’s. Because he had the practice for so long (the building was named after him) it would be illogical for a patient to accuse a Doctor with a long history of inapproriate behavior and expect anyone to believe them. I survived both attacks on the World Trade Center and declined to come forward because I can only imagine how the Defense Attorney would assasinate my “character” and mental stability because it was mandatory that I seek pshychiatric counseling because I was a victim of both world trade center attacks. NOBODY ASKS TO BE VIOLATED and I hope that the patients making accusations are being truthful and not trying to profit. I certainly did not want to profit by coming forward because he will face the ultimate Judge….GOD.
