BY  |  Tuesday, Apr 26, 2011 12:30pm  |  COMMENTS (43)

Are there any NJ residents who don’t have at least some allocated space in their hearts for The Boss and his gang of musicians? There are always a few curmudgeons out there, but if you’re a baby boomer or younger, chances are Springsteen’s epic fourth album, Darkness on the Edge of Town left its mark (was anyone at the Capital Theater show in ’78?).

This Friday night, April 29, at 8 p.m., the Outpost in the Burbs will screen The Promise: The Making Of Darkness On The Edge Of Town (2011), the acclaimed documentary starring the Boss and directed by Grammy- and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Thom Zimny. For Baristaville, the screening has a special hyperlocal connection. Montclair-based photographer Mark Wyville’s images of Springsteen are included in the boxed set of CDs and the DVD. Wyville’s images will be shown as part of Friday’s Outpost film screening event. Continue Reading

Montclair Police Blotter: “Satan” Graffiti, Burglary, Table Theft

BY  |  Tuesday, Apr 26, 2011 10:00am  |  COMMENTS (5)

The latest in Montclair crime from Lt. Scott Buehler:

On 4/21/11 at approximately 10:45 PM, police responded to a single-family residence on Eagle Rock Way on a report of an activated residential alarm. Upon arrival, police observed a portion of the gate to the fence broken from its hinges and lying on the ground. Later investigation determined that the fence may have been damaged by a suspect fleeing from the scene prior to the arrival of the police, as a rung on the fence was bent and contained a muddy imprint. Police also located an unlocked storm cellar door that led to a basement door. A small window pane on the door had been broken and the door itself was not secured.
Police checked the residence and found fresh mud on the basement carpet and kitchen floor. Police learned that the owners of the residence were on vacation and it was not known at the time of the report if anything was missing from the residence.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Joseph Anderson at 973-509-4706. Continue Reading

Bloomfield Doctor Convicted of Criminal Sexual Contact

BY  |  Tuesday, Apr 26, 2011 9:00am  |  COMMENTS (14)

Yesterday evening, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced that internist Dr. Raymond Russomanno, 67, was convicted on four counts of criminal sexual contact on a 27-year-old female patient who came to the doctor’s Bloomfield office complaining of back pain. However, the Randolph resident was found “not guilty” on two more serious counts of attempted sexual assault and seven other counts of criminal sexual contact. If he had been found guilty of these charges, the doctor would have faced ten years in state prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 6, and Russomanno faces up to 18 months in prison for this charge. Still ahead for Russomanno, however, is another case involving 15 other victims. Continue Reading

The Jersey Sting

BY  |  Monday, Apr 25, 2011 4:00pm  |  COMMENTS (0)

Ted Sherman and Josh Margolin knew it was a winning story before they started to write The Jersey Sting, but it was only after digging deeper into the tale of corrupt politicians, money laundering rabbis, and black market kidneys — all revolving around the Ponzi-scheming FBI informant son of a Deal, NJ rabbi — that they realized it was a home run.

“We obviously were aware that we had some very interesting material for the book, but we couldn’t possibly have predicted what we’d find,” Margolin told Baristanet in a telephone interview. “Even lawyers who worked the case, including Ralph Marra [Acting United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey] told us after reading it that they were surprised at how complex the story turned out to be.”

Wellmont Theatre Lowers Ticket Charges

BY  |  Monday, Apr 25, 2011 2:30pm  |  COMMENTS (4)

While almost everything else in the world gets more expensive by the minute, as of last week, buying tickets for concerts at the Wellmont Theatre will be a little more affordable. The Montclair rock venue has lowered the service charges on tickets purchased through Tickets.com for all upcoming shows, eliminated per-order processing fees and Tickets@Home delivery fees.

“By printing their tickets at home for free, concert goers no longer need to wait for the mailman or stand on the ‘will call’ line,” said Wellmont spokesperson Jaime Roberts. “And its cheaper!”

Roberts added that the theater box office also has new hours of operation:
Fridays and Saturdays: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Show days: 12 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Next show up is Snoop Dogg on Thursday, April 28. For the complete list of upcoming events, click here.

I was very glad to see this post. The running in the street around here drives me crazy, mostly because the the majority of the runners I've encountered (not every runner)seem to think that it's their right to take up half the street when what they are doing is in fact illegal. And let's not be silly. Yes, concrete is hard on the joints, but the pavement isn't that much better. It's not like the roads are made of track rubber.
