Goodbye, semplice

It’s always sad to get news that one our unique downtown stores is going out of business. It’s especially sad to hear we’re losing that cool oasis of chic furnishings and accessories at the corner Bloomfield Ave. and Glenridge Ave. in Montclair, where semplice home resided. Not just because of its simple elegance, but because owner Kelly DelRosso has worked so tirelessly on behalf of local retail as the creator of Shop Local Montclair.

Undoubtedly, DelRosso, who’s a master graphic designer as well as grassroots organizer, will stay busy — even without a bricks-and-mortar store. As she said in an email to customers, “Our next chapter begins. Stay tuned.”

Meanwhile, the shop is closed Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, but there’ll be a “blowout sale” starting Thursday June 2.

DelRosso’s website does mention two new directions, Pillow Talk Shop and Modern Beachhouse.

semplice home is located at 465 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10-6 and, yes, Sunday 12-5. 973.783.7495

So sad to hear semplice will be gone. I loved that store. I bought my favorite baby shirt for my first daughter there. A Montclair ’04 shirt: http://i52.tinypic.com/voapfk.jpg

Another store that I’ve never noticed bites the dust. Wake me up when the grim reaper gets to Dunkin Donuts.

Semplice made downtown Montclair pretty. Beautiful storefront windows, a nice place to window shop, buy a unique card, etc. Sad to see it go, even though most things were out of my price range.

@Georgette — I purchased and cherish the same T-shirt for my now almost 7 year old.

I am very sad to hear the news about Semplece. It is one of the few shops downtown that I really like. It was a great place to go to for the perfect gift for weddings, showers, housewarmings, etc.

Oh no – say it isn’t so??? I love this store! I could always count on it for the perfect unique piece of jewelry or a great little item for my house, not to mention their great furniture. Too bad we seem to losing our unique and individual stores!

The BEST for Christmas decorations & ribbons. I thought that something was up this past holiday season when they didn’t have their usual array of holiday items.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
