State Probing McLoughlin’s Charges

The Montclair Times has gotten confirmation from the state that the NJ Department of Community Affairs will investigate charges by former Montclair construction official Robert McLoughlin that Mayor Jerry Fried tried to exert political pressure on him in his inspection job.

McLoughlin said that Fried tried to influence his decisions on the Wellmont after a piece of the ceiling fell on spectators during a concert. The Wellmont was cleared for a big concert by Lyle Lovett about a week later. The office of the NJ Attorney General has confirmed to us by email that it has received McLoughlin’s letter.

Per our standard protocol, the correspondence will be reviewed and directed appropriately. We do not comment on correspondence or discuss investigations (or the disposition of requests for same).

Let me get this straight: You’re “borrowing” from a Montclair Times story, and even providing (how kind!) a link to the full version. Somehow this does not seem at all “authentically local” journalistic practice, especially for a site so well stocked with crack reporters, writers, proofreaders and copy editors as Baristanet.

Would you ever do the same for a story that first ran on Patch?

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
