Earlier this week, we posted an alert about a runaway Bengel cat named Tigger.
After being gone for days, he found his way home. Some of you speculated that he was at one of the popular cat poker games that take place in secret locations around Baristaville. While we’ll never know the whole story, here’s what his human friend Frances thinks.
Tigger is back home. He announced his return by scratching on the kitchen door late Thursday night. As he is normally a resident of Verona, we had assumed that he was trying to find his way back there and had just about given up hope of seeing him again. Our son kept the faith though and speculates that Tigger, being an avid Jet’s fan, decided that the end of the football strike and the prospect of cozy Sunday’s watching his team was preferable to life in the wild.
Thanks to all of our neighbors on North Mountain Avenue and to the readers of Baristanet for their concern and willingness to help find Tigger.
Where does your pet long to get to, and what would he/she come back home for.

I was running in Brookdale yesterday and saw, what I thought was someone walking a very strange looking dog. As I got closer, I realized it was a cat. And that the cat- with a collar- wasn’t being walked, s/he was just enjoying the park like the rest of us.
Imagine that, a nice home AND steps from Brookdale? That cat probably thinks s/he has a Palatial Estate in UPPER Montclair….
But my two cats stay INDOORS!!! I open the deck door often so they can breath free and fresh air through the screen. But other than a few times they escaped, as Dr. Cameron says, Cats belong inside.
Glad Tigger is safe.
It was a fun few days, but enough is enough.
@tigger tell us about your adventures
Tigger and walleroo …. Purrrrfect together!
Tigger, I’ll bet you were acting as a cat burglar, out stealing those bikes. Next time, don’t listen to the mayor and stay home where it’s safe.
Cats do belong inside..My cats have a closed-in porch to enjoy the fresh air, but they never want to wind up a lost pet on Baristanet…although I’m sure they’d enjoy meeting a real marsupial..
Baristanet reporters are all over this story, trying to determine how many miles Tigger might have traveled, but despite the requests there is no release of the numbers!
@johnlee that’s ok since tigger is not a government agency. Happy to have you home tigger!
You’re out and about for how many days, Tigger, and don’t even stop under the porch for beer?
perhaps tigger woulrefer freeze-dried chickn or a little liver treat instead of a beverage.
I’ll send my cats over tonight, walleroo.
Liver treats? Plech!
I’ve also got scotch. Had Charles Krauthammer over last night. He drank a wee bit too much and was rambling incoherently.
Oh that’s why Charlie didn’t show up at my house. Last time I wait around for him. Phooey!
What a bounder!
Very happy and relieved to know Tigger is back home safe and sound! As for my cats, they all have been and always will be indoor cats. They don’t even want to know where the doors are, even the two ferals I took in. I agree with Dr. C – cats belong indoors.
I know the type very well. Pussies, those indoor cats are.
Welcome home Tigger!! Enough adventure for awhile.
A couple down the street had a large completely white cat that went missing. After about a week they figured the cat was ‘in the wind’ for good. Exactly 30 days after ‘Snowball’ disappeared he came back a few pounds lighter and looking grungy as all get out. Dr. Cameron said ‘Snowball’ was extremely dehydrated and would not have lasted much longer. The owners thought that he might have been locked up somewhere in a garage or something. Dr. Cameron also said that cats can go three weeks without food and water and survive, where a person would only last less than a week with no water.
I’m glad Tigger is home where he belongs. Bengals are exceptional cats with astonishing athleticism, high intelligence and loving/playful dispositions.
All three of my cats were strays that had been outside for considerable lengths of time. They only go outside to our fenced in backyard under adult supervision, and they just love being outdoors, sleeping under the flowers, eating grass, stalking bugs, rolling around in the catnip, just having a grand old time in the breezy sunshine and silent shade in the out of doors where legends are made.
You don’t know the half of it old man. You would not believe what goes on out there.
What’s with the bird avatar? You think I’m scared of raptors? No freaking way.
Tigger, one of my girl cats saw your pic here and thinks you are very handsome. Want to meet a pretty calico?
My cat was a stray having litters in the neighborhood. Then she read my “invisible to humans” sign, FREE ROOM & BOARD W/MEALS – FREE MEDICAL – INQUIRE WITHIN, and now lives happily inside. Once she spent the night on my deck and she was not happy about it. She prefers safety, comfort and perquisites.
I’m much more of a dog person, but I must say Tigger is one good lookin’ fella. Glad he’s home!
