Ceiling Compromised on Claremont Ave., Montclair

Flooding in the basement is bad, but how what if you are waiting out Irene with this. A reader on Claremont Ave. between North Mountain and Valley, writes of a huge hole in the ceiling of her apartment. She says there was already a leak in the kitchen ceiling that her landlord refused to fix. It started out as a leak with some plaster falling a couple of months ago. .

…now have a huge hole in our ceiling. And it’s getting bigger–we have three other leaks, and the ceiling is bulging outwards, filled with water. A contractor was sent to look at it two months ago. He said it was caused by the fact that the gutters of the house have never been cleaned, and said he would add it to his list and would get around to fixing it eventually. We never saw him again. Because they never fixed it, it’s gotten much worse overnight, and is spreading across the ceiling. We have collected about two gallons of water since around 7 p.m. last night

Looks like our old apt. Is it #324? If so, we had plaster ceiling fall down near the kitchen. Moved very soon after. If same landlord, our advice…MOVE!!! Had to fight to do anything. Just did work done ourselves & took it out of rent. He didn’t like it but he never took us to court over it. He knew he was in the wrong.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
