With the recent formation of the Stephen Colbert’s Colbert Super Pac, Montclair’s resident political satirist has taken a step away from simply being funny towards actually being political. New York Times media columnist and documentary film subject David Carr — who also lives in Montclair — says that Colbert’s “Super PAC riff is a real-world exercise, engaging in a kind of modeling by just doing what Super PACs do.”

On August 21, Carr reported that Colbert applied for status as a Super PAC last May with the Federal Elections Commission and was approved in June. “This is 100 percent legal and at least 10 percent ethical,” Colbert explained.
