If you checked out early Friday afternoon, or have been glued to national television for 9/11 specials all weekend, you might have missed the following local stories. Here’s a recap.

1. MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. You needed a scorecard to keep up with the news on Friday afternoon, but in the end, County Clerk Chris Durkin said Mayor Fried’s petition to have voters decide whether to move municipal elections to November wasn’t valid.

2. CARJACKING ATTEMPT AT THE SHORT HILLS MALL.  According to Millburn police, a 53-year-old man was brutally pistol-whipped in the Mall at Short Hills on Friday night shortly before 9 p.m. when a carjacker tried to take his BMW.

3. FLOODING CONTINUES. The Passaic River will remain above flood stage until early Wednesday. Our Passaic correspondent, Wheeler Antabanez, filed a moving video of the devastation in Fairfield. Holly had a great piece about how to deal with flooding and water damage. Willowbrook Mall, however, did reopen Sunday at 11 a.m.

4. JACKALS IN FINALS. Our local ball team, the New Jersey Jackals, will vie for the Can-An League Championship in a five-day series against the Quebec Capitales. Action starts at Yogi Berra Stadium tomorrow. (We’ll have more on this today).

5. AND OF COURSE 9/11 WAS REMEMBERED LOCALLY. Read some personal accounts on our blog page, and see some of the sounds and images of local remembrances here.

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
