Montclair Crime: Drug Arrest Near Glenfield Park, Suspicious Activity on Porter Place

The latest in Montclair crime from Lt. Scott Buehler

Drug Arrest

On 9/28/11 at approximately 12:30 PM, detectives were conducting an investigation in the area of Glenfield Park when they observed two males engaging in a hand exchange consistent with a drug transaction. Detectives approached the pair, who fled the area. Detectives then pursued one of the males, later identified as William Fleming, south on Wheeler Street. During the pursuit, detectives observed Fleming throwing a plastic bag into a line of bushes. Detectives apprehended Fleming and recovered the plastic bag that he had discarded. This bag was found to contain eight glassine envelopes of heroin.
Fleming, 40, of Montclair, was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within one thousand feet of Glenfield School, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within five hundred feet of Glenfield Park, obstruction of the administration of law, and hindering apprehension. Bail was set at $50,000.

Suspicious Activity

On 9/28/11 at approximately 8:55 AM, police were dispatched to Porter Place on a report of two motor vehicles having been entered. The complainant stated that a Honda Accord and a Saab had been parked in a driveway on the 27th at approximately 9:00 PM. When she returned to the vehicles the following morning at 7:30 AM, she discovered that the driver’s side door to the Honda was ajar and the contents of the vehicle had been scattered about. A check of the Saab showed that it had also been entered. Nothing was reported missing from the vehicles. It is believed that both vehicles were left unlocked prior to the incident. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft from a Motor Vehicle

On 9/28/11 at approximately 6:45 PM, police were dispatched to Cloverhill Place on a report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The victim stated that she parked her Jeep Wrangler in her driveway on the 26th at 7:00 PM and stated that the vehicle was entered sometime between then and 5:30 PM on the 28th. The victim reported a Tom Tom GPS system, valued at $150, and approximately $20 in coins were taken from the vehicle. Police could not locate any signs of forced entry to the vehicle. There are no suspects at this time.
