This just in from the Montclair police:
On 09-01-11 at approximately 5:12 pm, police stopped a Dodge Intrepid with four occupants on Bloomfield Avenue just east of Maple Avenue after observing the vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign at Mission Street, which led to the seizure of 550 bags of heroin from the center console. All four suspects were placed under arrest for narcotic offenses. During the course of the investigation an officer was injured when the Dodge Intrepid rolled into the back of his legs briefly pinning him between the suspect and police vehicles. The officer was treated for his injury at Mountainside Hospital and later released.
On 09-02-11, a search warrant was executed on the vehicle at Police Headquarters which uncovered an additional 250 folds of heroin that were hidden inside the area of the center console. The total amount of heroin seized is 800 folds of heroin (with a street value of approximately $8000).
The following have been arrested and will be transported to the county jail:
Jamal Harriott, 26, Montclair, was charged with possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin), distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 1000 feet of Glenfield School, and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 500 feet of Glenfield Park. Bail has been set at $150,000.
Mustaeem Palmer, 24, East Orange, was charged with possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin), distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 1000 feet of Glenfield School, and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 500 feet of Glenfield Park. Bail has been set at $200,000.
Jadsirah Perez, 26, of Newark, was charged with possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin), distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 1000 feet of Glenfield School, and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 500 feet of Glenfield Park. Bail has been set at $150,000.
Anthony Moon, 24, of Newark, was charged with possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin), distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 1000 feet of Glenfield School, and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance 500 feet of Glenfield Park. Moon, who was the driver of the vehicle, was also issued several motor vehicle summonses and charged with resisting arrest after he attempted to flee on foot once he realized that police found the narcotics. Bail has been set at $150,000.
To my knowledge this was the largest seizure of heroin from a motor vehicle stop in Montclair. I would like to commend all the officers involved for such an outstanding job.

YESSSSSS! (fist pump)! I hope the injured officer is okay. Thank you to the Montclair Police Department officers for their hard work and perseverance in keeping Montclair safe for our kids. Be safe.
I have overheard that Montclair is the “New~Newark/Irvington” for retail selling of drugs. This seem to agree. Shame.
Mission Street.
mission, new, maple ….. streets is hood in lower montclair, needs much much more attention from law enforcement.
Sandy my man, what are you smoking? Drug arrests around Mission Street = good news. Montclair the new Newark? Bwah ha hahaha!
It probably doesn’t signify much, but relaxpeople’s use of the phrase “bwah ha hahaha” is exactly the same usage as offered up here more than once by the late, surely lamented (for his immediate comic relief) and always doughty lasermikey.
I’m wondering if this seizure is merely a re-up for a couple of days worth of buisiness in the “hood”.
800 bags of heroin seems like a lot to roll with unless one is expecting substantial demand. Then again, it is a long holiday weekend. My question is: why here?
