State Senator Nia Gill’s Montclair headquarters was alive with activity yesterday as she hosted Paint for Democracy, a community get-together to discuss current issues facing our local towns and our state. Gill met with a steady stream of visitors as she answered questions and expressed her support for public education, expanding health care and creating jobs. Everyone received a warm welcome and was encouraged to paint a message on a 60-square foot message board. The response was so overwhelming that a second canvas had to be added.
Then I was handed brush and paint. I painted some daisies on green stem (my comfort zone) but when I heard Gill explain that she is fighting to make sure every child has the opportunity for a quality education, I knew what I wanted to say. The paint flew off my brush: “Our children are our future…”
You still have time to drop by and add your mark. Election day is 26 days away. Be sure to vote.

Love to think that art and group participation could lead to something so progressive
