This week’s open house scene is busier than it might have been due to last week’s storms and resulting problems. Many houses are showing for the second consecutive week, including 5 Highland Terr., Montclair, featured here. In total, about 110 properties are open. Maplewood and South Orange are especially active; Glen Ridge, usually sleepy, has more houses showing than usual as well.

Highlights include the modern kitchen, which has a breakfast nook, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a wine refrigerator. In addition, there is an ornate brick fireplace in the living room; central air; and a sunroom. Outdoors, there is a professionally designed patio and back porch.  All roofing was recently redone; the windows, sidewalk, driveway and front steps are new as well. There is a finished, full basement with high ceilings and two car detached garage. The house was constructed in 1929. Open house 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Other interior amenities include a wood burning fireplace in the living room; central air; hardwood floors throughout; recessed lighting; built-ins; and designer shades. Outside, there is a private backyard, deck and bluestone patio. Finally, there is a partially-finished basement and two car detached garage. Open house 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

There’s a lot to like about this 2,800-sq. ft. 10-room Bi-Level, including a recent $46,000 price reduction. Other positives include a rustic family room with wood paneling, a beamed ceiling and fireplace; a two-story deck; central air; new exterior and interior paint; and a decently sized flat backyard. However, some aspects of the house are dated, most notably the kitchen and bathrooms. There is no basement and a two car attached garage. The house was constructed in 1969. Open house 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, there are hardwood floors throughout; a fireplace in the living room; thermal windows and doors; a sizable deck; and private backyard. Lastly, the basement is finished and there is a two car attached garage. Open house 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Renovated last year, this circa 1927 Center Hall English Colonial is a nice mix of old and new. The 10-room house boasts a kitchen with granite countertops and Viking appliances; updated bathrooms; a new third floor media room/office; new windows; and central air. Also new: estate fencing, a paver patio and walkways and the sprinkler system. The 2,824-sq. ft. house has quite a bit of wood paneling and original oak floors, giving it some character. The fireplace in the living room has original leaded glass as well. Finally, there is a partially-finished basement and two car detached garage. Open house 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
